NEW NAIM PRODUCT LAUNCH
Posted by: Cbr600 on 04 January 2013
Not another new item, I hear you say !
Any ideas what it might be ?
As in more expensive = must be good?
Obviously I didn't make myself clear when I pointed out that the NAP100 is the same total output of 200w into 4ohm as the NAP200
Into 8ohm it is a very different story, so was idly speculating as to why.

Regardless of whether it is for me, I think this is a killer product. Well done Naim.
Interested to know where the pre section of the dac-pre sits within the current pre hierarchy. Hoping 282 level plus.
Sure, 552 level, minimum....

Read its dual mono btw.
Well, that was all very exciting wasn’t it?
Now what can we expect (or should I say hope for) at Bristol?
Very disappointed with this launch.
About time Naim brought out the big guns at the high end.
They seem to be focussing on the domestic market and not giving sufficient attention to the high end amplifier kit.
They are after all supposed to be world class hifi.
Seems they are moving more towards Amstrad style !!

Footballers have enough overpriced stuff to spend their money on.
Meanwhile back in the real world.

Don't worry about the high end, there is Bristol yet to come. Remember also that the DAC VI and NAP 100 will bring a lot of new customers into Naim - many of whom will also get into the high end - and through their purchases help fuel the R & D effort. It's all good.

NDS/555PS-DR/552/552PS-DR/500 not big enough for you?

Why do they have to bring out 'the big guns' ? Ego ? There is no ultimate winner in the Hi-Fi game. It's so subjective. Consider, in which area Naim do most of their business ? Where do they make most profit ? Should they concentrate on the thousands of 'domestic market' clients or aim for nirvana for the hundred or so 'hi-end' clients ? They should TRY to satisfy both sets of clients of course, but in my opinion it's clear where priorities should, and I think do, lie.
P.S. I can't afford hi-end gear ..............

These are excellent products for the current marketplace - just what many people are looking for and using sources (computers) that most people already have. Hasn't the high-end been expanded with the NDS and modded with the DR-upgrade? It's also a little disengenuous to take pride in the longevity of high-end Naim product lines AND complain that they aren't rushing out new ones!
Naim products are aspirational and this type of offering will increase their user-base. I had aspired to having one - I'm in my mid-fifties and have only just been able to afford a Uniti 2. I'm so pleased with it that,if finances permitted, I'd certainly be looking to stay with Naim.

CBR600, you are a romantic . But sorry, business is business. Otherwise, why bother with the lower order.....
Just thought I would toss in the odd grenade !

I think so.
What doesn't interest me doesn't interest me. But why criticise it?
I expect they'll sell the new products by the bucket load and take sales off the likes of Rega, Cyrus, Audiolab. Exposure, MF, Arcam, Marantz et al in the process. This would seem to be a more fertile ground for raising income, not to mention locking life long fans of the make into long term ownership and upgrades. From which we will all benefit. If the R&D for the CD555 for example, came exclusively from a slice of the sales generated by the CDS3, much as we love the latter, the former would not exist.
