What's Your No 1 Live Album?

Posted by: Quad 33 on 05 January 2013

I will start with this:

Graham.

It would have to be either TYA 'Recorded Live' or 'Irish Tour '74'. Both inspired me to try to learn electric blues licks on a Yamaha classical guitar. One album that is never mentioned is Mike Oldfields 'Exposed'. The live TB sort of reinvents itself with MO playing fluid runs that are harmonies of the original. I dare say I copped a couple of licks from that one too.

Really asking to name one and only one album is like trying to pick your favorite curry. Its Chicken Tikka Masala....no, no...its Sag Gosht...wait its really Karahi lamb, and so on. One thing about living in Rusholme..it made me very indecisive when it came to which Indian food to order.

Hi Ron, Because it's New Year you are allowed more than one, go for it .

'Seconds Out' & 'James Taylor Live' get most played round these parts.  G

Jethro Tull; one of the first (double) LP vinyl I ever bought;

I saw Rory on this tour. Great live album. Bullfrog blues really rocks.

And now for a couple a bit more left field;

This is a great blues/jazz concert. Jack Bruce played so hard his fingers were bleeding by the end of the concert.

Savoy Brown 'Blue Matter'. Only side 2 is live but 'Louisiana Blues' is such a classic live track of theirs it deserves inclusion here, and what a cover. Again a group I saw live.

But I also like these:

The live album on this is perhaps the group's finest work outside of the "DSOTM/WYWH/Animals" trilogy

Band of Gypsys is awesome. Best-ever electric guitar playing by anyone on Machine Gun too.

I also like Band of Gypsys and I have the 1st press vinyl but it's not the best recording in the world, probably worse than Zeps TSRTS which I also still enjoy despite the relatively poor SQ.

I've got an early one in the 'rag doll' cover.

Also got a 'homemade' cd a lad gave me of the same concert, no info, just a copy he did from somewhere with some extra tracks on one of which is the excellent; Hear my Train a Comin.
