Upgrade of Unitiqute firmware (attempted)

Posted by: bilbosbaggies on 05 January 2013

Am in the process of attempting my first firmware upgrade on my Unitiqute and am having some issues...

I've downloaded/installed the streamer updater to my Samsung N110 laptop and am attempting an upgrade using the wizard to get from 3.0 to 3.17.

The ARM code update goes through fine, when it moves to the streamer code update that's when things seem to get stuck.

After the forced reset at the end of the ARM upgrade the menu heading updates to 'updating streamer code', I then see the message 'waiting for the product to switch to upload mode' and that's as far as it ever gets.

After c1h I get the message update failed, indicating a comms failure and suggesting a repeat of the process or contact with Naim technical support. Repeating the installation attempt creates the same failure condition and messages.

The unitiqute is connected to the network by ethernet cable into my network switch which in turn is connected to the router. My laptop is similarly connected whilst I'm performing the upgrade. The laptop is connected to the unitiqute by means of a USB (laptop) to RS232 (unitiqute) serial converter connection.

Has anyone got experience of resolving the above or any suggestions?

Many thanks

Graham

Hello Graham

I don’t think that you should be attempting to upgrade from v3.0 to 3.17, Naim said when they released 3.16 that this should be done only after 3.13 had been installed. I would therefore assume that 3.13 should be installed first. This is what I did and all went well.

If you are running version 3.0 firmware then you have an early Qute, I trust you checked its software version against the following warning.

Please note that if you have a Naim Streaming Product running software version BC SW 10198 DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE.

I have no idea if any Qute’s were released with that software but worth checking yours.

Please also be aware of the further warning.

Streaming product updaters must not be used to revert or downgrade a device to an earlier version as this will make your product inoperable.

Is the Qute operational at this time? Are you able to get to the menu and check what version software and firmware it is running now?

You can read the announcements at:

Hope you can sort it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Peter. Sometimes the obvious isn't always obvious, have now successfully installed 3.13 and subsequently 3.16 and 3.17.

Thanks again, much appreciated!
