3 Questions About n-Stream app for iPad

Posted by: LCV on 07 January 2013

I am using n-Stream with my iPad to operate my NDX.

I would like to Know if there is a particular reason why if I navigate my library (which is on my mac running wit E-lyrics) from my iPad with the n-Stream app when I select Album artist in the icon view I can't see the covers of my ripped CD but I see all the CD as generic folders. I can see the cover only when I select an album. (All my ripped CD have the cover in the metadata).

Why there is not the possibility to search something like in iTunes?

Why is not possible to navigate a single track? I listen to a lot of classic and jazz and some times I need to listen to a specific part of a track but now I can't do it?

Do you think that all this will be possible in a future release of the app or there are some reasons that make this not possible?

Some one here is using a third part app (for iPad) to operate the NDX or know if it exist one?

Thank-you in advance

To partially answer your last question here is a quote from the sticky post of 16 November 2012 relating to the release of n-stream version 3.2

"n-Stream 3.2 is now available to download from the App Store. The update simply enables a new seek to time feature on all lossless file formats (WAV, FLAC, AIFF and ALAC) for new UnitiLite units only. This feature will be available for all other Naim streaming products with the release of new product software scheduled for early next year."

Lorenzo - I have the same in Artist view. Artwork is fine otherwise but never displayed in this mode. Tried different UPnP servers putting artwork as folder.jpg etc but no change. I suspect that function only works with the Unitiserve serving ?

Hi Lorenzo, the display of art etc for Nstream is down to the Upnp server, Nstream is just like a web browser it can only show what the upnp gives in response to a request. It sounds like your upnp server is not offering the art in album list mode... Perhaps you don't have the image.jpg art file in each album directory and your upnp server is set to use that??

FWIW I use asset with Nstream and can see album art in many different views from album list, genre, artist, playlists etc.

I am currently using E-lyric on my MAC as UPNP server.

All my ripped CD have inside the cover in jpg and I can see them on my mac.

I think the problem is E-lyric because on this SW it is not possible to change the view mode in to icons only, it always shows a list of my CDs with the correct cover and all the description but there is no way to change the view mode for example in a "only icon" view mode!

Anyway the most annoying thing about n-Stram app is that there is not a way to search a song or a CD with a key word, and as I have more then 1500 CDs ripped finding something is not so easy!

I really hope that in a new upgrade of the app they will give this option!

Thank-you to all for your answers!

I feel a bit idiot!!!

Looking better to the n-Stram app on my iPad (and with better glasses) I noticed a small icon of a magnify lens... and there I can do all my search in my library from my iPad!

Now I hope to find my self feeling even more idiot in finding the way to see the covers!

Till now no changes in any mode (album. artist ecc)

Do not feel too bad -- there is no documentation out about this software (I don't THINK), and you have to just click everything to figure out what it does!

Well thank-you for your words!!!

I just discovered that I can se the covers of my CD in the n-Stram app only if I chose "all tracks" in icon view which is not very useful!

Just discovered an interesting thing!

I tired the app "plug player" on my iPad with which I can operate my ndx, it can't tune the volume of my supernait but living everything as it is on my mac now I can see all the covers of my ripped cd in every view mode!!!

So the problem is not my upnp server (e-lyrics)!

strange!
