Java not working for Web File Manager of QNAP TS-219Pii

Posted by: Ptangyang on 12 January 2013

Hi

When trying to upload anything in the Web File Manager a pop up window appears saying the following: "JRE v1.6 or later is required on your computer to upload a file larger than 2GB. If you have already installed JRE v1.6, please enable it". I'm not trying t upload anything larger than 2GB anyway, but it wont let me get beyond 'browse folder'.

I've downloaded a new version of java and made sure that all relevant boxes checked in safari preferences, but still no joy. Has anyone had a similar experience or help put me in the right direction? I'm using mac OSX 10.7.5.

Thanks

Neil

Install the latest Java from sunsystems.

That being said why are you using web file manager for transfer from computer?

Yes; with OS X just use Finder to drag/drop files into folders on your nas.  Much simpler, at least for me.

Interesting, I guess I'll have to wait it out a while. Thanks

As an aside, has anyone seen the warning from the US Dept of Homeland Insecurity advising that Java be disconnected entirely until ORACLE gets serious about security?

thats some damn good info and would be a joy if i could only get it work - i just get the following: "The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Multimedia” can’t be found"

it also shows (SAMBA) and (AFP) options for the same master folder.

any ideas?

You have an issue with permissions.

Go back to the qnap web interface and open admin, in there is share folders, in there is multimedia. Sorry cannot remember the icons but one will give you info on who has access. Allow anyone full access and read/write privelages.

This assumes you are not homeland security. If you are guy bob, living at home behind a standard firewall then you really don't need permissions.

Once set you should find it mounts correctly.

The AFP should mount anyway, albeit slowly. These are just filing protocol, and lead back to the same info. i.e. if you copy a folder to AFP or SAMBA the date will still go to the multimedia folder.

I didn't think that this could be other than a hoax, but it's not!  No need to check Snopes; it's quite real

Yeeesh, now I cant access system at all. Tried soft reset as I'm now questioning whether i got the p/w right, and its still saying no (user: admin p/w admin). Has anyone had a similar problem? Hesitant to do full reset as I've read stories of data loss.
