Streaming Heaven Achieved!

Ok, so no n-stream for android :-( but I don't need that anymore!

I would like to recommend a system that finally has ironed out all my grievances with streaming music to my NDX.

I have a Synology NAS as my music storage device (DS412+) running DM4.2 (makes java installation easy)

Use Bubble uPnP as a control point on either android tablet or phone

https://play.google.com/store/...bubbleupnp&hl=en

Now, this works as a system to send music to the NDX, but gapless does not seem to work well and I get issues.  However if you add the crucial missing ingredient - Bubble uPnP server

then musical nirvana can be approached. You proxy the Synology music server through the Bubble server and create an OpenHome Renderer for the NDX - then all of a sudden everything works as I always wanted it too - including perfect lossless.

The server will run on the NAS directly, and works on some other models too. I recommend anybody who can should try it.

And I forgot to mention the excellent on-server playlist functionality that means multiple devices can add to the playlist simultaneously (great for parties)

sounds good, i like the idea of the interactive playlist with multiple devices..

Hi Conrad,

I am pleased that you have got the systemnwherenyiu want it to be - but reading your thread, I realized I didn't understand a word of it ! Not trying to be clever, but it does ilustrate the huge range of abilities and experience when it comes to anything digital.

Cheers, Paul

Hi Conrad

Do you know if Bubble does transcoding from flac to wav before feeding to the NDX

Posted on: 14 January 2013 by Pev

@Foxman50 - Bubble doesn't have to do the transcoding - it is done by the upnp renderer - in my case Foobar2000. Music ripped as FLAC shows up on both Bubble and SU screen as WAV so optimum sound quality!

Bubble is a control point so it feeds whatever the renderer is set to put out.

If you download the free MusiXmatch app it integrates automatically with Bubble to give you lyrics of whatever is playing. Click on the settings box in top right of the Bubble now playing screen and then on Lyrics and voila! Also get background images of the artist.

You can also get "scrobbling" (artist information) via the LastFM app if you enable it in the Bubble settings menu.

Still want Android Nstream though!

Hi,
I would be very interested to know if the "musical nirvana" available with BubbleUPnP+BubbleUPnPServer also solves the gapless playback issues you had with this control point and which you allude to in your post.  I am myself a very satisfied user of BubbleUPnP, and considering the purchase of a Naim unit, but very preoccupied with correct gapless playback.
Regards,
