So folks, we have started the motorbike thread, so how about a thread of pictures of all your old or present car favourites, nice memories, horror stories, etc

Tony2011 and CBR, Yep, it's the very rare Alfa Tipo 33 Stradale, and I've no more pics, as the crowds around this car at the 2010 FoS were getting in my bloody way . I'm sure a google image search would uncover a wealth of them.

Good choice Fabio, although I think I slightly prefer the looks of the GT.  I remember one of the baddies in Tintin (was it The Calculus Affair??) drove an Aurelia GT and always at top speed.  I so wanted one and came close to buying a wreck for a few grand back in the late '80s that was part of a big barn find near home.  Wish I had done so but the restoration costs even back then were going to be beyond my means.

Richard, that GT is nice too.As for your question about Tintin I admit I don't know what to say,but I made a....Google search(ok,that's not fine  and:"Another famous scene involves a car chase with an expert Italian automobile driver in a Lancia Aurelia GT. When a gendarme eventually stops him and asks for his name, he recites it in full: Arturo Benedetto Giovanni Giuseppe Pietro Arcangelo Alfredo Cartoffoli da Milano"That's Wikipedia source about Tintin and made me lol regarding all those Italian names for one man only!By the way,I do remember Aurelia B24 Spider appeared in "The easy life","Il sorpasso"in Italian, performed by one of my favourite Italian actor,Vittorio Gassman, and French actor, nice as well,Jean-Louis Trintignant in '53 or so.Oh,the Aurelia was white.

Louise, my Lotus Elise S1. Had her for a couple of years, great fun to drive and no problems with her, except getting in & out over the very wide sill!

Our cat really liked going for the occasional spin...

Tony,

I believe that there are special finishing schools for ladies to attend, where they teach them how to get in and out of such cars !!!

Kevin,

good to see that some people are still thinking of the ordinary mans car !

good to see the old custom of collecting badges on the front grille.

The bubble car in other photo looks well, and as for the camper van with its headlight "caps" on. ?

note

When I was a slip of a lad and training as an apprentice fitter, one of the other guys had one of these , a lotus cortina mk 1. The driver was an absolute loonie and the Car drove like a bat out of hell

Alfa SZ. Utterly inexplicably ugly, but fabulous.

In my fantasy garage.

Thanks for posting.

Also remember when I worked at one of the Londood hospitals and a friend had a GTV. One afternoon we decided to go to the birmingham car show
Raced all the way up the motorway and I was sat in back seats with my knees up to my chin as no real space in rear. All the driver could say was that he was fastest on the road and no one passed us. I just felt sick !

I had a white one of these for 11 years. Spent thousands on it and never made any of it back. Rebuilt the rear suspension outside my house on the road after a trunnion broke. Bending a transverse leaf spring with an iron bar held on with bits of chain and bicycle locks would not pas a H&S test...

That's a Vitesse isn't it, Steve? Much quicker than my old F reg Herald. But is it the 1600 or 2000? MDS

That's a 2000 Mk2.

They were fab, weren't they, Paul? Twin cam 1600, if I remember correctly.  But very rare.  There was a black one near my home and I always thought it very cool.  The rear lights on the Mark I Cortina always remind of the Martians' machines on the first film of  HG Wells' War of the Worlds.

My mate is doing up one of those right now, a Vitesse [convertible].

You are correct MDS, 1600 twin cam, which was the forerunner to the ford BDA engine ( belt driven) compared to the twin cam with chain drive cam shafts.

The lights were around the time when cars started trying out the round rear lights. Around same time with imilar lights was the Opel manta

Lovely stuff.  2-litre in a body that light and with such skinny tyres (by today's standards) should be very entertaining. Hope your mate gives you a go in it, Julian

The vitesse was like a pocket rocket in its day. Could be even more interesting if you use crossPly tyres
