So folks, we have started the motorbike thread, so how about a thread of pictures of all your old or present car favourites, nice memories, horror stories, etc

I have to agree with you winky - those US spec bumpers take it from ugly to fugly in my book!

My first Saab was a 900 5-door. Set me on to them for life. Wonderful car that could carry just about anything (including model railways around the country) and was supremely comfortable for long or short drives. Handy as the woman who is now my wife lived in Scotland and I was in Maidenhead. It was also the chariot that carried her away from the banks and braes to the Home Counties.

The convertible shown earlier is my 5th Saab. We have 2 others a red 9-5 saloon with Abbott tweakery and a 9-5 Estate Aero Hot with 250 bhp on tap. Lovely motors all.

Why didn't all you other b*gg*rs buy them too? Then the company would still be going.

I went to Vermont to go skiing in the late 80's, and so help me, 2 out of every 3 cars there seemed to be Saabs.  Of course, that was kind of right before the introduction of the now ubiquitous SUV.

It didn't get much more mental than this bad-boy.

Aaah, the Renault 5 Turbo 1? A friend had a road going Turbo 2, amazing thing. 1.4 litre, mid-engined, overhead valves, carb, and with a minor mod about 220bhp. On the over-run, flames from the exhaust licked the rear edge of the roof. Great handling too, easy to hold in an oversteer drift. I also saw John Price a few times in his rally Maxi Turbo.... 400 ish bhp? Tony

And the introduction of Subaru. Easily the Saabs match in the snow, less expensive, more reliable, and easier to repair on those infrequent occasions when that was necessary. Not as safe as a Saab but then no other car really has been.

My last roommate while back in school this last go-round had one of these:

I believe his was a '66 - RH drive, and with a Union Jack that covered the whole roof.  (Freaks out the clowns at the drive-thru when he is either on the other side of the car, or chooses to through in reverse.)  Gets 50 mpg, and he is 6' 4" tall and has plenty of room inside.  Makes the new Cooper Minis look enormous by comparison!

He also had another one that we was re-doing - going to drop an Accord engine in it & I guess see if he could get it to leave the ground!

Er...Volvo?  But then, having had my sorry ass saved onice or twice by technology invented in Gothenburg, I would say that!  ;-)

So what's the coolest road going vehicle (new or old) you'd like in the garage, no cost limits?

Technically it's a bike....but for me it's a Morgan 3 Wheeler.

Visited the LeMay Auto Museum in Tacoma, WA today.  Exceeded expectations.  Highly recommeded if you visit Seattle -Tacoma.  I've been to Harrah's Reno (1980's) and Blackhawk in Walnut Creek -- both great.  LeMay sets a new standard.

Nick,

All reports of the LeMay say it's exemplary.  Another jewel in the Pacific Northwest.  I plan to take my dad there next time he visits from AZ.

I took this shot from the passenger seat of my mate's '96 Camaro on a checked and double checked deserted desert road in Saudi. Oh the joys of petrol at 3p per litre.

One of my shots taken on the '87 Quip rally, Wykeham forest, North Yorkshire. I think the driver was Chris Mellors. Ilford XP, developed by my ol chief at RAF Marham.

Regarding Saabs (again).

Having owned 2 Hillman Avengers, a Ford Escort Estate Mk 1, A Triumph Vitesse Saloon Mk II 2-Litre and an FSO Polonez before my first Saab, I appreciate a car that, when I shut the door it goes thud and not clang and I can drive for miles and miles without having backache when I get out.

PP,

That looks a very dubious car history you have listed !

Tony,

You had to go and show a sierra, so here's the cozzy

A car I'd love to have drive of.

The weissman.

Often see them doing corporate drive rounds between the races at F1 in Monaco.

The sound is incredible

Ok, I know it's not a car, but this is me 'pulling a wheely' with an aircraft tug. Bad Tony.

This is Geoff Hammond, I think, in his hillclimb Quattro Sport at Loton Park, 1987. And his tow car? A road going Quattro Sport.... I think the hillclimber had about 850bhp and sounded glorious in a way that only the Audi 5 cylinder turbo could.

Aaah, something like this beasty: http://youtu.be/fA3-wXXW6ok Turn up the volume.

My first car was a forest green three door version of this car.  Loved the curved windshield, it's solidity and character !  Really, really miss that car ....

Lotus Europa Gold Leaf.

Always hankered after one of these as a teenager in the 60's. I think George Best had one.
