Lotus Europa Gold Leaf.
Always hankered after one of these as a teenager in the 60's. I think George Best had one.
Aways loved the look of the Europa, but was put off years ago when I found out they used renault engines
I believe also used a 1588 cc Lotus/Ford DOHC engine. Is this the same engine Ford fitted to the Mk 2 Cortina E Lotus. twin cam. One of my work mate's grand parents bought him one of these in flame red with green flash and twin filler caps. Lucky bugger.

What you want then, is the Lotus 47. Same body but with the Ford-based Twin Cam engine. Basically a racing car.

Loved the look and nothing at the time handled like a Lotus. But while stationed in Virginia in the early 70's I must have seen a half dozen in distress on the side of the road in my travels up and down the east coast. I remember thinking at the time, not a good ratio given there were probably only a couple dozen in the whole country.
A car I'd love to have drive of.

The sound is incredible
It looks like a 21st Century version of a Jaguar XK120, with maybe a soupcon of Morgan Aero thrown in for good measure.

The entries in this thread seem to fall largely into 3 categories: 1) really nice, 2) really ugly, & 3) really ugly but now cool in a retro sort of way.
I don't know how much exposure the American Motors Corporation got overseas for their products, but I think they fall squarely into the #2 category:

When I first saw a picture of the Lagonda, I thought someone had done some silly Photoshop stretching. But when I read that it came from the same manufacturer as the DB Mark III, Vantage and Vanquish, I was shocked!

I had a friend who owned one of these: mid-70's Lincoln Continental Mk IV - I borrowed it to use in about 1999-2000, and all I can remember is that it got about 8-10 mpg, and the front hood (bonnet?) felt like it was the deck of an aircraft carrier...definitely not a nimble ride, but straight line it could go pretty fast with it's 460 cubic inch (7.5 L) engine...what a beast.
The other thing I remember about it, was that it had the "primitive" versions of all the amenities we now take for granted (cruise, power doors, etc) but they were so "mechanical" in their presentation.
My dad owned one of these; 1974 Buick Electra 225 - only his was a pale baby vomit green that should never have been a car color:

Now thats a more reasonable car (wont say nice, but its not big and ugly)

I use one of these.
Bought 3 years ago as an MOT failure because of a badly cracked windscreen, for the princely sum of £300. I figured that even if it died the first week that the wheels and chunky off-road tyres were worth more than that. Only problem so far has been a shattered fuel line caused by my daughter's second driving lesson when she managed to drive into a particularly nasty drainage ditch at speed. The back is now stripped out and it's handy for logging on the farm. It owes me nothing and then some...
We used to live on ten wooded acres, with a quarter mile long hilly driveway. It also used to snow a lot more twenty years ago than it does today. With our '92 Toyota 4Runner's hubs locked for four wheel drive, I never had to worry about getting stuck -- it could go through anything! (Note - this is not my actual truck -- merely a pic I found that closely resembles it).

My late father had one, a 1303 model which was apparently a "luxury" model. As far as I could tell this luxury extended to a curved windscreen. The road-holding was the worst I've experienced in any car; the brakes were weak; the headlamps so dim I thought they were side lights; the heater had no blower making it hopeless for de-icing in cold whether (made worse by the air-cooled engine); and the windscreen washer was charged by the spare-tyre pressure; and the exhaust rotted regularly, made worse by the 3-4 hour job needed to replace it. I hated the thing but my father, bless him, loved it.

Wasnt the 1303 model fitted with a 1600 engine instead of the Normal 1300?
