Nice! Had to look twice to tell whether it was coming or going. Probably didn't earn many stars in frontal crash test ratings.
Not sure which is the scariest, the car or he woman ?
not sure if anyone has posted a beetle yet?
i have no doubt there are many on the forum who have either owned one, or have some history with one
My late father had one, a 1303 model which was apparently a "luxury" model. As far as I could tell this luxury extended to a curved windscreen. The road-holding was the worst I've experienced in any car; the brakes were weak; the headlamps so dim I thought they were side lights; the heater had no blower making it hopeless for de-icing in cold whether (made worse by the air-cooled engine); and the windscreen washer was charged by the spare-tyre pressure; and the exhaust rotted regularly, made worse by the 3-4 hour job needed to replace it. I hated the thing but my father, bless him, loved it.
Wasnt the 1303 model fitted with a 1600 engine instead of the Normal 1300?
If it was, Paul, you wouldn't have known it from the performance. It was the probably the slowest car I'v ever driven and that includes a 1200 Triumph Herald.

DrMark and Joerand, yes a like it too,so funny car! Most of all I remember my neighbour's father used to have one as a Taxi in the sixties when they still were green,a long time ago...Joe your"whether it was coming or going"really made me LOL!By the way every car in that time actually had they proper caracteristics, different from one another.
I once had a Beetle as a "loaner" whilst my Capri was being worked on. Vertical control pedals (OK in a race car) no fuel gauge and the "heater" what a joke?
I know they are a Marmite type car but it was truly awful vehicle, the only one to surpass it in my experience was a Citroen Ami 6(8?).

Oh, yes, I'd forgotten about those nasty vertical pedals. Only redeeming feature that I can recall was the steel bumpers which, unlike today's cars, could take a proper bump without incurring damage, which was just as well because front and rear visibility when parking was hopeless.

For me as well; I had the "pleasure" to borrow one and the vertical pedals is also my most enduring memory of the experience - I'm sure it would be even more fun in a bad, bumper-to-bumper traffic jam!

I also seem to remember something unusual about putting it in reverse, although I can't recall what that was.

Tesla
.??
Nicola Tesla, "invented" or maybe perfected AC mains distribution system, patented AC induction motor. His (Westinghouse) system was taken up over Edison's DC system.
Nikola Tesla. Seen here trying to reduce the static on his LP's, conveniently stacked into cylindrical towers.
Shocking
Modern Citroen 2cv
