Car nostalgia

I learnt to drive in one of them. Not the Mexico version, unfortunately. Lovely gear-boxes as I recall.
What we could afford.
What we wanted and tried to recreate
Is that the Mexico model?
Complete with the 6 clock dashboard!

RS2000 well thats what picture said
The joy of dropping a 1600 engine in a 1100 escort mk1 with drum brakes then trying to stop at the first corner .
Great Fun
Ah yes ... did that too ...
+1
Although mine was an Estate.

Steve,
that may well be right. My recollection was that the RS models actually had the RS2000 or the RS1600 logo on the use of the car as well, but maybe there were variants. The rest of the livery looks ok

Paul,this is my actual and she's your car's daughter...pardon,your BEAST's daughter.
Sorry,made a mistake.Paul this is your car's daughter...pardon.your beats's daughter.
All this talk of RS cars made me thinK of the super beast, the RS200, a mid engined car produced for rally use. Don't suppose anyone on here has driven one ?

Fabio, and tasty she is too. Obviously takes after her dad
LOL
That reminds me, I had a Green Escort Mexico Mk1 and then a Genuine Black one - very rare and it had AVO Black in the original registration and on the Type plate in the engine bay.
Later I had a couple of Reliant Scimitars SE 5a and SE 6a and this gives another memory jog - Reliant actually made the bodies for the RS200 near Lichfield where they were also assembled!!

Very interesting Frank. Don't know the models details of the scimitar, only that they were great.
Reliant RS200---- now that's novel
Two of my faves over the years.
My old TT225. A tad lower than standard, slightly bigger tailpipes from a Miltek exhaust and 100 cell cats, Porsche 993 brake conversion and an AMD remap.
My Z4 Coupe. Looked great, sounded great but had to go when we got a dog, so i got the sensible car (a 123d) and my other half kept her Z4 roadster.
James, the Z4 is stunning. Would love to drive one, I am told they are great cars.
I like that Z4 too, perhaps the only BMW past or present that really floats my boat. Maybe an old 'Batmobile CSL' but that is about it.
I have driven a first gen Z3, and a last gen 3 and 5 series but they did not cause a flicker of car-lust.

Watch out its the sweeney!
Another one of my sports cars, a TVR Griffith 500, at a TVR race day at Snetterton. A lovely brute; I made the mistake of ordering it without the optional power steering so it was a bit of a struggle to park. We kept it for three years/24,000 miles until one day it developed an unhealthy attraction to the Armco in the central reservation of the A12.
Despite TVR's reputation for flaky build ours was very reliable and never let us down. I visited the TVR factory & spent a happy three hours being shown round. It's really sad that such a fine company bit the dust but I suspect Peter Wheeler, the owner, saw the writing on the wall for big hairy-chested sports cars & sold out at the right time. -

Tony,
nice looking car. Am i right in thinking that Tuvvers are now in the hands of the Russians?
Was yours from the pre sale days or a more recent version under the new owners?
Hope no one was injured (apart from pride) with the close encounter to the flexi rail !
Thanks CBR / Bruce. The coupe is quite rare too.
Tony - lovely car. A real icon of the time. It's such a shame that TVR went the way it did. A brave move developing the AJP engine too for the later models.
James

She was "fun" this morning coming into work and I haven't a hope in hell of getting up the hill to my house later...

Through a twist of fate I ended up with one of the first TTs to arrive in the UK. My dealer owed me a big favour and one of the things that I got was position 43 on the order list. Considering that half of the orders were for soft tops that didn't arrive till much later. For months wherever I went people would stop and stare. If I parked it anywhere it would have finger marks on the windows when I came back.
This was my second ever car.

A TVR and snow,
Just don't go!
