Any Borgen Watchers out There?

Moving along at a cracking pace this series......although I thought the Statesminister luring the driver over to 'fix her plumbing' a bit ridiculous....G
PS. No spoilers from our Danish friends please.
Graeme, Apparently the BBC is filling the Borgen-shaped hole on Saturdays with a new series of "Spiral" - a French show I really enjoyed.

Nothing can fill a Borgen shaped hole!.

Ooo-er missus!
Count me as a fan of Borgen..! Great writing, convincing acting.
Wallander started the Scando invasion, the Swede version preferred.
I watched The Killing season 1 with great fascination but did not
get into the 2nd season. The Bridge was great too.
The Scandanavian profile has been raised greatly in the last
couple of years. Girl with the Dragon Tatoo is high on my list as well.
The Sat nite slot is my fav of the week, and certainly includes
Montalbano when it airs.
On the US front The Good Wife is back and what a kickass explosive
beginning it was! Archie Panjabi is just so sexy!!
And, yes, I agree...Mad Men is just so damn good. Haven't seen the
last season uet. My son gave me the Bluray series for Christmas,
but for some reason the player doesn't recognise the disc..Frustration!

The fifth season of "Mad Men" starts off a bit slowly but really gets going after that.
I got a Blu-Ray player for Xmas and my first BD purchase was a Mad Men box set - it looks simply stunning in this format - one of the best-filmed TV dramas of all time IMO.
Agree with you about "The Bridge" - even better than "The Killing". Loved the relationship between Saga and Martin.
BTW, does anyone else find Danish and Swedish really, really great to listen to?
An excellent to end to Borgen tonight, I won't say anything else about it in case of spoiling it for those who have not seen it yet. Excellent though!!!!
Why do I find myself wistfully brushing my teeth all the time?....
Yes...an excellent end to the current season, and nicely set up
For the next..! Could have gone either way. And with some
relationships seemingly resolved, while others...hang...in the
balance. ( ;~}

last week I met the bloke who played the African president in Eps 7 + 8. Nice chap. He filmed the eps about 18 months ago before Borgen had broken over here. He said the cast were fantastic: young and enthusiastic and lots of them involved in the theatre. The PM is a stand-up comic, which makes me look at Borgen in a new light... I've saved last 2 eps. Also loved the Bridge and Killing - but have managed to plug the gap with Breaking Bad - a bizarre American series my son bought me for Xmas. About an American chemistry teacher who takes to manufacturing Crystal Meth to make ends meet when he's diagnosed with cancer. Sounds unpromising and v morally dubious. It's very good...

Yes Breaking Bad, just purchased series 1-4 on a recommendation. I am saving it for when all the winter dramas are over and there is naff all to watch on the summer schedule. Series 5 is out in March.
Watched it (finally) on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning - superb end to a wonderful series. Brilliant acting, especially by Freja Riemann as Laura. Heartbreaking.
I have ordered the new Series 1&2 blu-ray box to tide me over till next year.
A Danish friend told me earlier today that there are some very interesting and unexpected developments in series three...
What took you so long Kevin? Spiral returns tonight with series 4.

I was at a party on the Saturday night, Spart, so missed it, and forgot to set the PVR. I had to wait for BBC4 to repeat it on Wednesday morning (fortunately I am an insomniac )
Looking forward to Spiral as well - loved the last series (the one about the gangs).
'Birgitte' was in Scotland last week Kevin. I felt her presence. G

Stay away from her Graeme. Sidse Babett is mine, I tell you, mine!

Sigh...
They screened the last 2 episodes at an art house cinema in Edinburgh and she was guest of honour. It was reported online by 'The Scotsman' and a local commentator complained that it wasn't art - like Andre Rieu for example....
Please, no independence!

The Scotsman used to be a good paper - over the past few years it has degenerated into a vacuous mouthpiece for the slippery Salmond (a man who seems quite happy to sell Scotland to Rupert Murdoch and Donald Trump).
If the Scots vote for independence, good for them, but I fear the SNP as currently constituted will be a disaster for them.

Did you catch it or did you forget to set the PVR again? It's looking good...
This thread should be renamed the "BBC4 9:00 Saturday night club"

No, watched it Spart.
Although it is in no way a replacement for the magisterial Borgen, this new series of Spiral is already shaping up very nicely. Good to see the gang back, with Gilou more shameless than ever, Karlsson still as cold and cynical and good old TinTin providing a bit of stability and integrity. And of course Laure is still as fascinating and complex a character as ever - certainly one of the most finely-drawn and subtly portrayed female characters we've seen on telly in recent years.
I do miss wise old Judge Roban too though - he's definitely the Bent Sejrø of Spiral, and my favourite character.
I also like the fact that the "terrorists" are a fissiparous anarchist group, rather than the stock Islamists, Russian mafia types, etc.
I'm deffo along for the ride on this one.
What did you think?
Saturday night is now definitely "subtitled Euro-drama night" on BBC4, and long may it continue.
Kevin, I loved it. I am impressed that they didn't fall into the cliche islamic terrorist plot as well. I do hope that Roban comes back. The new chief is already winding me up by getting in the way and trying to showboat.

Yes, he's a complete pain in the bum, that new boss, you know he's going to be trouble.
Apparently Roban will be back very soon.
Spart, do you watch Mad Men (according to Kev's Law of Telly, it is The Greatest TV Drama of Them All)?
It's back on 9th April, which should fill that Borgen/Spiral (when it finishes in five or six weeks' time) shaped TV hole.
Hi Kevin, I am a watcher of Madmen. I didn't catch it when it was first on TV for unexplainable reasons. One of my daughters asked for a box set to last her the final trimester of growing me a new grand daughter so I purchased series 1-4 for her. She then loaned it to me after the birth and I was hooked. I gave her series five for Christmas and then I borrowed it back (she had other presents as well). I'm now sitting impatiently for series six!

So nice to converse with someone with such excellent taste in telly Spart.
If you haven't seen it Mad Men is well worth watching on blu-ray, as you get to really appreciate Chris Manley and Phil Abrahams' incredible cinematography, especially the use of light. The sound design is extraordinary too.
