Best Male Live Vocallist?
Posted by: dave marshall on 18 January 2013
Just watched Queen's last live gig with Freddie, Budapest, ........does it get any better?
The man was a total showman............who could also sing.
I'm not really a huge Queen fan, much more the Stones and Zep, but the man is simply unbelievable.
Catch on BBC iPlayer.
Dave.
Jim Morrison?
Graham.
Daniel O'Donnell ?

Ahhhh, my favourite singer/performer/actor/drumer of all time/ex-pat of all time
Male vocalists are a bit of challenge because most of 'em are pretty much of a muchness .... however, a few standout of the crowd for me
- Richard Sinclair (Caravan and Hatfield & the North)
- Scott Walker
- Peter Hammill
- Robert Wyatt
- Kevin Ayers
- Bruce Dickinson
- Nigel Blackwell
- Roger Chapman
- Ian Anderson
- Greg Lake (not now though)
- Oh yeah and Elvis ....
Unfortunately 3 of my most favourite vocal talents on no longer with alive so don't count on this thread.
Eddie Vedder
Tim Booth
Matt Berninger
OK Guys,
Should have thought this through more carefully...............not meant as best "dead" male live vocalist................simply that Freddie's live performance seems to me to far exceed best known DVD releases thus far.

PH from VDG to his solo stuff. Tremendous voice!
I'd add Ian Curtis, sadly no longer with us.

I saw JD a few times back in the late 70s and can say that Curtis was the most astonishing live vocalist of his generation. The few clips that were filmed don't do him justice. in the flesh, in the small spaces JD played in, he was mesmeric. Great lyricist too.
I would love to see Scott Walker return to the live arena. AFAICC, the last time he played live was on "Later" 18 years ago, performing "Rosary 95" from "Tilt". Play yer boogie woogie piano along to that, Jools!
I was also lucky enough to see AC/DC with Bon Scott. He was fantastic...
Some of the best I've seen...
Gavin Clark
James Grant
Daryl Hall
Mike Harrison - Spooky Tooth
Paul Rodgers - Free, Bad Company
Todd Rundgren
Allen Stone
Steve Winwood - Traffic
Stevie Wonder

You lucky man.!
Never seen JD live but the few video Transmission performances have sent shivers down my spine.

IIRC they were only filmed professionally three times: by Tony Wilson in 1978 for Granada Reports ("Shadowplay"); by the BBC in '79 for Something Else (where they appeared with The Jam and blew them off stage performing "Transmission" and "SLC"); and in 1980 for the "LWTUA" video.
There were also some terrible quality live clips on the 1981 Factory VHS tape "Here Are The Young Men" - which has never been reissued - and that's it.
Theirs was a very short career - just under three years from their first gig to their last.

I've been flown home from the Red Sea by Bruce Dickinson...
Geddy Lee, obviously!
Arthur Lee. I remember clearly the RFH performance of Forever Changes. Stunning. Hairs on back of neck standing for sure.
I was surprised how good Michael Stipe was when I saw REM a few years back.
Nobody has yet quoted the obvious, Robert Plant.

What about
