Qobuz UK Restrictions Lifted If.....

Posted by: GraemeH on 22 January 2013

You drop them a line via the query form on line explaining you are UK resident your account will be 'unlocked' to receive HI-Res downloads.

They probably have the best selection of all the providers.

Qobuz will make products available in the UK to individuals who request it. They lifted my IP block and others in here have had similar results. They do some really good offers from time to time, I recently got Beethoven 1 through 9 in 24/96 for Euro 9.99.

Like the regional encoding on DVD and BD, it is less about rights and all about fixing regional distribution and prices. I've never walked into a record shop in any country and seen material which is licenced for domestic purchase only. It's a nonsense.

Agreed, Harry!

Thanks to this thread, I am now able to use this service from Denmark.

A nice birthday gift!

Yes, but do you mean from the UK, which I'm not.

No, not necessarily from UK. I just wondered how user friendly it is and what the quality is like?

cheers

They have several clients for different OS's, the 'menu'-structure is setup with symbols, so you have to remember what symbol refers to what: favourites, bought music, recommendations, playing now, etc.

Apart from that it is a very nicely designed piece of software.

sound quality is just good, nothing special to comment on.

it has the possibility to improve on it because it allows you to select any sound device and driver you have installed, incl. ASIO. So in my case I have a better sounding playback engine in JPlay which uses an ASIO-interface and can integrate easily with Qobuz-client. This puts it a step ahead of the internal playback engine IMHO.

So, there is no reason to hold back on the streaming, it is good, decently priced and has a huge catalog in 44.1/16 FLAC.

you can always just try it for a month and cancel it after that one month if not satisfied.

cheers

Graeme

I've just made my first studio master purchase having had my ip address block lifted.

My registration came with a 2 week trial of the streaming product, at 320kbs, not lossless.

I noticed that the Sonos client has been enabled for the UK so am using that Fed into a digital in on my NDX.

It sounds pretty good even on the compressed service, comparable to Spotify as you would expect, easily as good as Linn radio on well recorded material.

I really like the interface and how you choose favorites.  I have installed their desktop client and browse the catalog there, if you add and artist to favorites, it instantly appears on the Sonos and you can play anything they have for that artist. This seems the easiest way to work as when a new album is added for a favorite artist it will appear in my library.

I've emailed Qobuz asking if I can now signup for the lossless service so will let you know how it goes.
