Store your entire lifetime worth of music in your DNA

This being my first ever thread in the Padded Cell, I'm not really that crazy, and you can find the news article on the BBC in relation to the Nature magazine article.

Could this herald the real death of the CD, hard drive and USB stick?

Gives new meaning to "music is in my blood". Playback ? A personal DNA sequencer, at a mere $50,000...

The first song played would have to be Let it Bleed.

How about "I've got the Music in Me" (Kiki Dee Band)?

The whole idea of encoding information in molecules, essentially at an atomic level is incredible. The world will be different place in an age of unbelievably massive data availability. Carry everything ever known, ever recorded, ever filmed, ever photographed, ever written around in your pocket.

Yeah there is a fair bit of research going on in this field. Successful molecular (DNA) coding, transmission (you physically send something that looks like a speck of dust) and decoding has been demonstrated. Remarkable stuff.
