The adventure begins in just a few hours.

In just a few hours my local Naim dealer brings my newly bought Nd5xs streamer to my place and will install it.. If this is wise when youre a basic analog type of guy with very little knowledge on computers?. I hope so.
The first question I have is if my Nas from synology ( d212j) supports UpNp. Because it seems that I wil need that in order to get connected.
i should get the Naim dealer to get the NAS hooked up while on site installing the Naim kit
The adventure should have begun with finding out some basic stuff . Do as Cbr600 suggest and get the dealer to set it all up. Then Pick his brains while he's there.
Good luck and enjoy the music.

YES -- Synology provide a UPnP server software as part of their software package. You might want to read the article on the Synology website, titled, "How to enjoy multimedia contents stored on Synology NAS with DLNA/UPnP-compliant DMAs." You can find it easily
You will need a rather thorough understanding of how this works so that you can expand your music collection and keep adding new music to the Synology in a way that the server and then your ND5 can see it. It's not very complicated, although it may seem so at first. It's really not.
Good luck and enjoy!

Hi fred
A big thumbs up for synology NAS.
I have just spent last night and today setting everything up and then copying my music over. There are some very good threads on here that explain specific settings for "Media Server" UPnP software that will be installed onto your NAS once it's ready. Once everything is setup it's quite straight forward. My NAS is running latest MS 4.1 software but as mentioned above get your dealer to assist with setup.
I'm currently listening to my ND5XS with a big smile on my face. Good luck and i hope it all works out for you, Anton
Hi Fred40, how is the adventure going? Is everything working and are you busy ripping and enjoying music?
Hi Fred40,
It may be a rocky journey to start with as you get your head round how this new brave world of networked music works but once you have grasped it there will be no going back, for sound quality and convenience there is nothing like it, and with the ND5 XS, as with all Naim streamers, you have one of the best control interfaces around.
Keep us posted on how you get on and try to enjoy the journey
Hi All,
There was, as my dealer explained " a slight and minor miscalculation in the dilivery time". I cal lit a big miscalculation. Anyway delivery of the ND5xs here in Holland at my local dealer will be around the 18th of this month. I have no other option then to wait. ( Sigh)
... Hope it turns up on time...
Thx I really hope so. Sold my Naim cd5 xs which makes me nervous. Can the ND5xs hold promise and sound better then the stand alone cd player? Don"t know. If not....
