I would love this brilliant  album to be put onto vinyl.

Also all the Kate Walsh/ Kate Rusby and Dan Arborise albums please?

Stu.

This one...  it'd have to be a quadruple album though

2: Over the Hills/SIBLY/Stairway

3: Acoustic Set

4: D&C

5:What Is.../Dancing Days

6: Moby Dick

7: WLL

8: R&R/Ocean/Bring it on Home

No.  I'm not sure I see the point.  If it's CD only then it's digitally processed.  Why put digital on vinyl?  If it was analogue recorded it would presumably already be on vinyl.  Sure, you can put higher than CD resolution digital on vinyl like the Beatles box set.  Does that sound better than the CD?

No idea about Stu's choice but both the Zeppelin and Floyd albums I described were recorded on analogue tape. And they've never been issued on vinyl. So there is a point, yes.

All the Beatles stuff was recorded on tape as well.  That's no guarantee it will make it to vinyl without digital processing.  In fact the older the tapes are the more likely they will have to be digitally restored, as was the case with the Beatles catalogue.

Sorry man but you are missing the point by a long way.

There are lots of Great artists that have only put there albums out on CD because its been cost effective and easy to do..

Some have taken the time to do wonderful sounding CD albums without the over compressed digital loudness wars production going on that would transfer to vinyl quite nicely.

Not all digital recordings are bad.

Have you ever bought any Naim CDs or Vinyl? Or anything on the Brilliant German  label ?

That keeps me Happy.

No Stu, I have not.  While you were gone, we had a bit of the "digital on vinyl" discussion here: https://forums.naimaudio.com/di...82#22826037068403982

When digital processing entered album making in the early 1980s it was usually easy to "spot" by ear.  For example, Stones Undercover 1983, Steve Winwood Back in the High Life 1986, The Best of The Alan Parsons Project 1983, each on vinyl but still have a digital signature or glare to my ears.  So I say that once digital enters why not just play the CD as it is a more practical medium than vinyl?

Here are two examples in the other direction.  Travelling Wilbury's Vols 1 &3 remastered on HDCD in 2007 and the 20-bit remastered songs on Steve Millers Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits.  Each of those CDs sound better than the original vinyl.  So again, why not just play the CD?

If you are going to go through the effort of recording and processing all analogue today, that’s great and it should be set to vinyl.  But to take a CD and put it on vinyl isn’t going to dress it up.  It’s still only going to be as good as the original source, which is digital.  Maybe it works if your TT is a superior source to your CDP?

I have not bought newer vinyl, so I don’t have a good basis to compare today’s digitally recorded stuff on my TT.

I was only gone because i chose not to post, But still read.

I have all the TW albums and most of the Steve Miller albums on vinyl and CD.

You are still missing the point.

I am not talking big Record Company money spending mass produced recorded CDs here.

Get a copy of this  and tell me it would not transfer to vinyl and sound even better?

Posted on: 29 January 2013 by joerand

Stu,
Difficult for me to imagine how things would transfer because my stuff is basically two camps; pre-1985 vinyl and post-1985 CDs.  Here is an artist from this millennium that has recorded in analog and I have her CDs.  She is available on vinyl, so perhaps I'll give this LP a try.  She's playing in London in a few weeks.  I've seen her live twice and would highly recommend.

To listen to digital CD to vinyl list

Posted on: 29 January 2013 by What's My Name

Yes please, love this album.

Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variation '81 version.

Now, this would be interesting since the original vinyl copy I have is made from the digital master.

But the later CD release 'A State of Wonder' version is made from the original analogue tape and the CD sounds better than the vinyl even at the Redbook resolution!

So, I would love to hear the *true* analogue master made to a vinyl.

Other Digital/Analogue Wish list: A lot of stuff from the 90s-early 2000.

AFAIK, above albums never made it to vinyl. Oddly, I have almost all the dance/electronica from the same era as DJ kept the vinyl alive.

Now I would love to see the Crystal Methods's Vegas reissue. It's a good candidate for MOV lable perhaps! A used copy is going for a silly money!

No doubt others have faves vice-versa.

I have the eponymous 'Buckingham Nicks' LP on vinyl and would really like it on CD. It has never, to my knowledge, had a commercial release on CD. Possibly due to a falling-out between the musos concerned.

Stu, the Floyd didn't play Earls Court in 1975 (they only played one UK gig that year, and it was at Knebworth). And 1975 was a full five years before they first played "The Wall" there. Are you sure you don't mean a certain heavy dirigible, do you?

I'd love to buy a copy of this on vinyl:

Mike Harrison - Late Starter

The album was recorded in Analogue format @ The Grange, Norfolk, England. The Spooky Tooth singer is in great voice here and along with members of the Hamburg Blues Band create a wonderful warm 'live' sound on this CD, making one wish for a vinyl release.

Kevin,
Sorry got the Wall dates mixed up with Led Zepp .
I have not heard the vinyl from Spain as IMO it was to much money to take a chance on.
