nSream App not 'seeing' Uniti

Posted by: Mr Paws on 01 February 2013

I checked into the settings on the nStream app to find that my Uniti had not registered on the app so I did a refresh but it came back with no devices found although the app works mostly ok so I'm a bit confused.

ive deleted the app and re-installed it but still the same problem so I was wondering what could be wrong here?

Maybe I've done something wrong ?

Ironically this problem has appeared only after the installation of a VM SuperHub!

Could be a coincidence ?

This does *not* meet the definition of ironic!

Sorry for my poor Grammar. I'm only a thick Scouser and I embarrassingly bow down to your vastly superior knowledge of our great language and it is over 35 Years since I left school I apologise for any mistakes in this reply.

Just been thinking.

Of all the Forums I've been,or still a member of I've never had anyone having a go at someone who may have misinterpreted words or definitions of words.

I think I'll disappear from here albeit a short stay but thanks to all who have given a New Naim Fan and a somewhat novice on Digital/Software issues Some good advice.

I am a determined individual and I'll get there in the end.

A special thanks to Simon. You obviously know your stuff Sir and I 'tip my hat' to you.

Dear Mr Paws,

It's only a forum, so please don't take it too seriously. I have been on the receiving end of "corrections" when I made typing errors!

I would suggest starting with the Featured Topic that the board owners created to address this very issue:

We have all been guilty of it, but taking just a little time to check the resources here can get you a long way much faster than waiting for people to help you with your issue.  That was Garyi's advice yesterday and it remains very valid

Mr paws, there is a good possibility that this is not a coincidence.. Upnp (and apple AirPlay) discovery use some thing called multicast discovery messages. Multicast is an important part of the TCP/IP specification... However some 'cheap' consumer devices don't correctly support multicast.. Especially over wifi. Which is disgraceful and they should be taken off the market. I am not saying for sure your device isn't supporting multicast but it looks like it from your description.

Alternatively you need to connect your devices together using a netgear or linksys switch and your wifi with Apple Airport express plugged into the switch... That will work.. You can connect a lead from your switch to your hub as appropriate.

Simon

PS I wouldn't take what people say on here personally.. Rise above it and ignore it. It would be good for you to stay around and contribute in whatever style or language you want within reason
