Twonky no longer automatically updating

Posted by: Dungassin on 02 February 2013

I use Twonky 7.0.9 on my QNAP 219pII when my laptop (with Asset) is running something else processor intensive.

I have it set to -1 in the appropriate place and until about 5 weeks ago it was automatically detecting any additions to the FLAC files on the QNAP.  However, now it has become very flakey, sometimes recognising new additions, but more often than not failing to 'see' them until I force a rescan of the folders.

I am currently running at about 60,000 music files (and still rapidly growing as I continue making digital copies of my LPs).   Is this a known problem?  Does Twonky file update not work properly past a certain number of music files?

Of course, in a few months time when I finish the LP transfers, I will give up using Twonky anyway.

Tried the Twonky forums - they pointed me at QNAP forums

Posted the query there, and so far the only respondent tells me that this immediate addition of new audio files to Twonky depends on something called 'inotify'.  A quick perusal of other parts of the QNAP forum shows me that there are some problems with the latest version of the firmware, and that the 'inotify' type problem seems to come and go with updates to the firmware.  A suggested work-round is to not use -1, but set the rescan interval to 1 hour or any other figure.

I have emailed QNAP support, and await their reply.
