Unitiserve setup problems.

Posted by: David O'Higgins on 06 February 2013

Ok. I've connected the unitiserve to the my home network and have ripped 2 cd's. I have used the desktop client to select and play tracks. I have gone in to Internet radio and somehow managed to find one of my favourite stations - but how do I store it?

More importantly, how do I get my IPad to talk to the Unitiserve?

I am using the Unitiserve via local connection to my 552 via a Dac.

Thanks

David if your UnitiServe is properly on your home network, the nServe app should find it and control it.  Download nServe from the Apple app store. Search for Naim Audio and you'll find it!

Thanks Bart, I had already done that, but Nserve is giving me a message 'no servers found', despite the fact that the desktop client has no problem.

David is your desktop clients wired or wireless? Is your iPad connected to the correct network, that is one that has unrestricted access to your local network?.

Gerry, I'm no expert but I'll try to answer your questions. The desktop client is connected wirelessly. My Ipad is connected wirelessly to the same network. What does 'unrestricted' mean and how would I discover whether it has unrestricted access?

Have you tried to enter the ip address manualy in n-servbe? You can find the ip address in the desktop client, after the name of your Unityserve.

Wich router do you have?

Hi David,

I had a similar problem last week, after completely reassembling my system, the Unitiserve sould not find the network. eventually I found that my iPod had connected to the "Guest Access" wireless network of my router, which does not allow access to the local network, it just enables Internet access.

The network you are connected to will show within the settings menu of the iPad.

Cheers

When you play a station or podcast it is added to the last played section in the desktop client, my hard disk player internet radio last played. The simplest way to add stations to the preset channels is through the n-serve when you find a way to connect it. Until then the last played list on my dtc contains 20 channels, in most cases this for me is enough stations so I seldom bother to add a station to presets. If you really want to do it without n-serve you have to go to the http://naim.vtuner.com site.

Got it! The (maybe temporary) solution is to use desktop client to discover the IP address of the Unitiserve (tools/status)  and then enter this in the appropriate place in the N-serve app. Don't use the automatic option.

Happy for now! Thanks to all

Let us know if this solves the issue long-term.  nServe SHOULD find the UnitiServe on its own; it does at my home.  I have not had to use your work-around, and have rebooted my uServe many times.  Each time nServe finds the (new) IP address.
