I have an NDX and 252 pre-amp setup and this issue has been bugging me for a long time.
The volume control in the n-Stream app is appalling. Quite simply, give us a slider control please. I think it's in the app software but only for use with a SuperNAIT - is that correct? Having two buttons and no slider is terrible. Usually in the evening, when the kids are in bed I go to put some music on but upon opening the n-Stream app I have no idea what volume the amp is set to. Usually it is set quite high and when music starts playing it makes everyone in the house jump! A simple slider would let me visually know immediately what the current volume level is.
Also, the lag when pressing the two volume control buttons is terrible and sometimes one press does nothing and then another press takes it down/up too far.
If SONOS can get their app so right why can't NAIM?
Please implement this ASAP or tell me how to hack the app to show the SuperNAIT slider.
Cheers,
Tom

Just a thought. If (and nobody has confirmed this) UPnP is the cause of the horrible volume control lag and too little / too much problems, can't Naim use a different network system (ala SONOS) for the app control of the Naim player? This would leave UPnP for the audio quality and 'whatever networking' for the user interface.
Naim?

Obviously our experiences and problems vary, depending on our equipment. I have not trouble at all with lag on my Superuniti or UnitiQute. Response is very quick, in fact. It's just that as my finger leaves the slide bar, the volume usually changes slightly from where I want it to be (and it's not 'finger trouble'). I think I'd prefer a '+ or -' solution, including a numerical display matching that of the SU or UQ. I realise that this is not a cure for everyone though.

One for Richard or Naim hardware bods:
OK, so we have ascertained that you cannot have volume feedback from a 252 to know what position the volume is currently in. You can only send signals into the 252 to turn the volume up or down. This makes sense.
Can you tell me what the RS232 and RC5 interfaces on the back of the 252 can offer. Are these used by NaimNet to plug into anything and give volume position feedback? Can anything be plugged into either of these ports to give this feedback?
I might be grasping at straws but I'm trying to avoid changing my system just to get decent app volume control. Also maybe someone from Naim can reply to my other questions and thoughts above???

I get on fine with the + / - buttons on nStream -> 252. I don't find it any less responsive than the remote.
There's no feedback off the volume on the 252 other than via your ears....
