Help me chose a projector screen

Posted by: Billy Rubin on 18 February 2013

Renovating a house.

Opportunity to put in a retractable in-ceiling screen for future use.

Must achieve very neat finish when closed.

Viewing distance would be 3 m.

When down, screen would sit in front of speakers (this will be a Naim 2 channel system used mainly for music but with occasional movie duties in 2.0).

Acoustically-transparent material therefore required.

Potential projectors Panasonic AT6000, Sony VPL-HW50ES or similar.

THX criteria suggest a screen of 90 inches diagonal would be ideal although other authorities suggest a screen diagonal of 70 to 80 inches would be better for the given viewing distance.

Content will be mainly 1080p.

I've no idea about projector screens but maybe you could try the AVForum site? There's a massive amount of information on their and it's a busy site where you'll quickly get some feedback.

IME a fixed screen is far superior to any type of retractable screen. If there is any way you could accomodate this then I suggest it is the way to go.
