New SuperUniti 2

Posted by: markush on 19 February 2013

Parallel to the new Uniti 2 there are rumours of a new SuperUniti 2. Does anyone have any further details?

Posted on: 19 February 2013 by yobeech

Wow I'd be curious to know as well as I am close to getting a SU in a month or so....

Posted on: 19 February 2013 by markush

Maybe it's integrating new technology from the just released DAC-V1 as well as features from the NDS and DR power supplies? That'll be really great.
Also some of the "drawbacks" of the SuperUniti was it's lacking capability of tuning (with an additional power supply which other Uniti2 or SuperNait are capable of).

What do you mean lacking capability of tuning?  Like internet radio?

Posted on: 19 February 2013 by jobseeker

I think it means tuning like you would 'tune-up' a car. That is, improve the performance by adding an improved power supply.

Exactly what I was trying to say

Maybe it should be "pimped"

This is a rapidly evolving market and there is space for improvement - so I am eager to hear what features / improvements the SuperUniti 2 will have.

Can't imagine no one knows any further details ... where are the guys with some background information?

Posted on: 19 February 2013 by Stefan Vogt

In the German audio magazines, many of the naim classics (e.g., 282, 200, 250) have disappeared because of their age, some only recently. This might be an odd strategy, but it has potentially negative effects on buyers. Thus, if naim is preparing some broader refresh of their classic products (292, 210, 260, ...), then perhaps a refresh of the SU (still in the top leagues, and leaving little to be desired in its class) is not really on top of naim's agenda? I would guess that the classic (and XS and 555 and DAC-V1) design will stay with us over the next couple of years, though. Sorry, not really keeping with the topic!

"where are the guys with some background information?"

Maybe somewhere else.

The revised SU2 will be launched next month. It will have Naim's new DAC beating the NDS for SQ. Amplification will surpass 252/300. That's not all though, AFAIK RRP will be 30% lower and the SU3 launch is scheduled for end of Q4 together with the Uniti3 and DAC V1.5 and NAP 101.

BS!

What is the source of the rumour? If it was from posts like the one two before mine, then I can understand how some might be swayed in believing some truth in the grapevine. Personally, I cannot see how the SU can be improved by much in such a short time and space! There is hardly any room in the SU to accommodate much more! Only time will tell ....

I heard that it will be called SuperUnity squared - One harder and will star Bruce Willis.

One of the things I like about hifi is that it is mostly a mature industry.  It if choose you can hang on to gear and it doesn't get too dated.  An amp that lasts decades, brilliant.

Feature sets as long as your arm only sell units, it doesn't sound any better.  the less something does the better it sounds as you are not diluting your investment .  That is what separates brands like Naim, or it did.  I like my DAC.  It does nothing but DAC.  Do less, but do it superbly, and don't update it every 12 months, it devalues everthing else you sell.

Well there is for example an update to the Uniti -> Uniti 2 and doing this in this rapidly evolving market for the SuperUniti sounds reasonable.

Yes, doubtless one day there will be a SU2, but I bet it's not for a while - I'd guess this autumn at the earliest. This thread doesn't seem to have much basis in reality!

Hope so. Just bought a SU and really like it. I'd be really down if the SU2 came out and it made toast as well

Well the SuperUniti has been released in autumn 2011 so Q3 / Q4 in 2013 sounds reasonable as the market moves at great pace and they got some goodies / improvements.

I agree...can't see it happening this soon.  And I certainly do not see it being

influenced by the dac-V1, if anything, the reverse.  Rumors and speculation...

More and more of Naim's direct competitors are producing high end streamers and dac/preamp combos so i would guess that their traditionally relaxed upgrade programme will be ratcheted up a notch or two.

Loooolllll... Made me laugh out loud... Listening to my SU right now (with 250.2 I have to say), Man, do I really really really need more?
