Userve Ripping

I have a Mahler Symphony No.3  2CDs set performed by Jascha Horenstein with London Symphony Orchestra (UKCD2006/7)
UServe ripped CD1 without any problem but won't rip CD2, it can get the disc information through AMG online but the rip never start. I thought it may be the disc problem so I borrow the same CDs set from my friend but it won't help, still CD2 cannot be ripped.
It's one of my favorite CDs, anyone can help? Thanks!

Over the years I have occasionally had a cd where this happens, not just on a Naim ripper.  In fact I have one cd that I was never able to properly rip the entire first track of, and when I put it into my UnitiServe it finally did rip the entire track.  It must have been a problem with the original mastering or pressing, because many online versions I found also suffered that same problem; even iTunes Match gets it wrong and has the defect.

I think that some very small number of cd's just have problems -- exactly what those problems are, I am not sure.  I would try to rip that Mahler disc with a computer, and just store it as .flac files, IF that works.

I have encountered one such problem after 2 years with my US hard disk version.  It was a CD buy Goldfrapp that just would not rip for some reason. Every one of my 600 odd other CDs ripped perfectly.  Interestingly, when I contacted naim, Phil H mentioned that coincidentally they had just discovered the same probleat with the same CD at Naim HQ. I think the subsequent software update of the US cured the problem somehow.

Absolutely no idea why this happens, but luckily it is only a very rare event. Could it be copy protection or something similar ?

Good luck, Paul

You could try ripping the original CD to wave files and then re-burning them on a CR or CDRW.  That should get rid of any nasties on the original CD.

Thanks for the inputs, if no better option I would rip the CDs with computer and store it in the NAS music shares for Userve to read then, just thought directly ripped by Userve should have the best SQ.

No .. There is absolutely nothing special about the US ripper, any computer set up with XLD (Mac) or dBPA or EAC will rip perfectly and check the accuracy if the rip. in the case of HDCDs, dBPA will make better rips than the US. The metadata may be different, but rips are rips. This has been verified many times on this forum. i found the rips on a UnitiServe were as good as those as those I did with XLD on my Mac. The music data was 100% the same.
