How many CDs can you rip before your US locks up?

I am having a difficult time ripping more than 12 CDs before my 2tb US freezes and must be rebooted. Anyone else experience this?

Never.  I've not experienced this (also a 2tb uServe).

That doesn't sound good - I did around 900 on a Vortexbox with no issues.  Have you contacted your dealer?

Yeast, I would contact you dealer. Something does not sound right. Never expireienced any problem with dbpoweramp and Asset, and have indexed roughly about 13,000 tracks. I am sure the Unitiserve should  do the same.

Hi Yeast,

Ripped 600 cd's in the last 6 months and no lock up on the 2tb.

What happening after you reboot...does it lock up again and again?

When I was ripping my CD collection on my Notebook, I had to reboot it after about every 8th or 9th CD, because the ripping software said "no CD drive found" or something of that kind. I suspect this issue to be due to incompatibilities between the drive and the driver software. Well, I'm on another notebook meanwhile and you you should take your unit back to the dealer and ask for replacement. I guess Naim have used different CD drives and not all of them seem to be 100% compatible with their software.

Only 2 were not able to rip but found them to be damaged. Love my US. Ripping is so easy.

Hi Dev,

Jason.

I love them too.  I agree what others say, they are listenable for hours without fatigue, very musical and engaging at low levels.  After I upgraded from the Qute to the SU, they really came into their own.

I am begining to believe my network hardware is the issue, not the UnitiS. I am in the U.S.A and am using ATT's UVerse broadband which has an integrated modem/router setup. Its junk, as I have gone through 3 of these in 4 years. They limit wireless devices to 10, but since all my audio/video devices are hard wired via ethernet connections, I have been able to run the UnitiS, SuperU, ( I also tried a Sonos bridge and connect but gave up)..

I think what confused me was after ripping a number of CDs (I have ripped 400 CDs in 2 weeks) the US would stop ripping and I would lose connectivity with the UnitiS. The disk would not eject and the front panel would just flash. Rebooting allowed the UnitiS to eject the disk and stabilize. The UnitiS never recovered until rebooting.

I think now, that my network signal must be fluctuating and that maybe causing the UnitiS some problems.

I will call ATT tomorrow and see if I can get a Modem only and purchase a more robust Router or buy an Airport Extreme since I am MAC based. Maybe this is the likely problem.

Thanks for all your help

That's what I would do, too.  If there is no modem-only hardware, you can disable the router functions on most modems, amounting to the same thing.

Good luck.

Yeast, I don't have any particular problems with my Verizon FIOS home modem/router, but nevertheless have an Airport Extreme (in the form of a Time Capsule) connected to it, and used for all wireless and switch functions.  It's the only thing connected to the FIOS router.  (Absent problems, I let the FIOS router handle dns and work as a true router, and disable those functions on the Apple.)

You may need to go the next step and disable the router function and use the Apple for that, as you noted.  My guess is that AT&T will not offer you any other options.  The WiFi from the Apple should be loads better as well.  (I disabled wifi on the FIOS router.)

I had a similar issue with my HDX.  After about a dozen or so rips, the ripping would slow down to a crawl (8-10 min per CD).  If I left it for a few hours, it would return to normal.

I guess the HDX just doesn't have a very good work ethic!
