iTunes 11.02

Posted by: George Fredrik on 24 February 2013

I have just downloaded this onto first my PC as a test - it will soon be deleted again - and after the test run onto my Mac Mini.

It works fine, and though a dramatic simplification of operation was assured, there seems to be no functional change in it at all. The search engine works properly, and the sonic seems identical.

When the version 11.00 appeared it had some really silly defaults, and this foxed me for a while. Therefore I was suspicious of any new version without doing a test run with it on my PC first. It is impossible to go back once the new version is loaded onto a Mac ...

All is fine though, and I thought I would share that with others. I do not use any additive software such as Bitperfect with iTunes, and canoot comment on how the new version works with additional software packages.

Hi George,

I was also intigued by the "dramatic simplification", but I think we both mis-read as I believe this simplification was embedded in 11.00. The 11.02 only gives some small extras as "componists" in the column browser and some bug fixes.

Cheers,

Iver

Dear Iver,

Yes the change to version 11.00 was massive from 10.70. And the silly default settings are now rectified so that 11.02 becomes simple plug and play at optimal settings once again. I am always suspicious of "dramatic" anything! Improvements are best achieved in an evolutionary and steady way in my opinion!

For people like me who loathe fiddling, this is good news.

Hi George and Iver,

Apple also say that this minor update "improves responsiveness when syncing playlists with a large number of tracks, and offers stability and speed enhancements".

I tend to play whole albums so the playlist enhancements do not mean much to me. I am however, always up for a bit more "speed and stability". I will install it in the next couple of weeks fist on MacBook to check then MacMini for ongoing use.
