Today I picked this album again from my collection of LPs:
I had rather unexpectedly found it among other more normal releases at my usual record store, in my home town, in 1985.
It's got a 'proper' sleeve, with the Parlophone label. The back sleeve:
is normal looking too, and I have often wondered, in the years, whether it was a pre-release copy that had actually left the EMI's printing plant and had landed, who knows how, in Torino, or a plain bootleg carefully reproducing an 'original' - a fake.
Does anybody know a little more on this? The sound quality is not exceptional, the disc's central label is pure white, on the central grooves there's 'BS-001A- on one side, and 'BS001-B- on the other, impressed in rough, handwritten capital types.
Is it common? Is it a freak?
Thanks,
Massimo

James,
I am not sure it is from 1985, actually - now that I think about it, it seems a bit early even for unofficial material like the one that went into the Anthology. I may have misread 1985, as last year quoted among the copyrights, believing it is the year of manufacture.
Apart from this, I can't detect no place or year.
Why do you think it's not a British release?
Max

I have a Sgt Pepper 1969 reissue with black and silver label. I was always under the impression that the black and silver labels are not very valuable, but the gold and black labels are.
I did think it was worth about a tenner, but I've discovered my mint condition MONO version with single EMI box is worth substantially more.
I also have a 1967 mono version. The interesting (or not) thing is a date stamp on the flame inner sleeve. June 23rd 1967. E.M.I. 22 days after the release date. Searched for reference to a similar stamped copy on the web with no success.
