Hello
My trusty NAP 90/3 (combined with a NAC 92) has developed a fault in the left hand channel. I have decided I want to change it all for an AV
setup.
There are various threads givng advise on linking an AV receiver pre outs to a naim pre amp/integrated amp for powering the front speakers but couldn't find anything on going directly to a power amp.
I have always loved the sound of my Naim amps, so I was considering a Yamaha RXA820,
Denon AVR3313 or Marantz SR7007 (or possibly lower models which still have pre outs) connected via Pre Outs to a NAP 100 via RCA input for the front
speakers.
I was wondering if it is technically viable to connect straight to the Naim power amp with these av amps.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

My center and surrounds are served the way you describe, Pre-out from a Denon AVR directly to a NAP-V175. A lot of the Naim magic comes from the Pre-amp, though. Depending on your goals, you might want to consider running the AVR into a NAC with Unity Gain, with non-video sources connected directly to the NAC instead of to the AVR.
Good luck,
Nick

Dave,
I would echo Nick's comment about pre-amps and magic. I have used pre-out's from a number of boxes into Naim power amps, with no issues. But, the whole took a step forward when I use a Naim AV2.
That said, a VERY knowledgeable friend of mine is keen on the new Oppo 105, which includes an additional HDMI input, pre-amp section and spdif amp connections - and, of course, acts as a DLNA client, and I believe even has an async DAC input on the front; I will be having a listen in due course!

Mr Underhill,
Does your friend use the Oppo as a pre with Naim amps or analogue via an AV2?

I run the pre-outs from my Denon AVR direct into a Naim power amp (500 until recently and now a 150 ( dont'ask!)). It works fine once you have wired up the appropriate bespoke signal in lead.
I was confused as to what exactly happens in the NAC pre amp when using the 'Unity Gain' function to pass an AVR pre-out signal onto a NAP so I enquired at Naim. I was told that it is a 'pass through' setting and the AVR pre out signals do not enter the NAC pre amp circuits at all, so in theory there should be no audible difference in direct connection to a NAP.
Mr U correct me if I am wrong but I assume you are using an AV2 to PROCESS the channel signals, which is different entirely from using the 'Unity Gain' function on a NAC with an externally processed pre -signal
regards
Geoff

Sorry Law, forgot to check this thread.
Direct to Naim power amps, and is advising me to use the Oppo in place of my Oppo BDP83 & AV2; to which I am giving some serious thought.
If/when I test it I'll report back ....won't be for a while though.

Hi Geoff,
I am using the AV2 to process non-hidef soundtracks, and to pass on soundtracks from my current Oppo.
My point with the AV2 was simply that I had used a number of processors from a number of makes into my Naim power amps, but the AV2 was a huge step up.
That said, I use the Oppo BDP83 to process the HiDef tracks on my BluRays, and just pass this through the AV2 to the power amps - which works well; hence my comment about the Oppo 105.
....and yes, this IS different from the Unity Gain, as you are highlighting.
