I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to
Oh well
She had the hottest lips since Hiroshima
I had to stand back for fear of being burned
----------------------------------------------------------
Think of black and black will think for you
It's covered Stan in bruises, of the darkness that he knew
For black has stolen half the moon away.
The Mississippi Delta was shining like a National guitar
Sam Cooke is on the radio,
And the night is filled with space.
Your fingertips touch my face,
And I'm real, real gone...
Oh, so many to choose!
I read your letters
Tears filled my eyes
All of your promises faded
To nothing but lies
So I turn the photograph over
Face to the wall
And when I dim the light
In my room tonight
Teardrops will fall............
You didn't have to be so nice
I would have liked you anyway.......
The last verse of Paper Airplane always gets me.....
Our love is like a paper airplane
Flying in the folded wind
Riding high, dipping low
But innocence is fair game,
I'm hoping I can hold it in
Our love will die, I know.....
but you do need to able to sing it like Ms Krauss

Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am!!

Candy came from out on the island.
In the backroom she was everybody's darlin'
But she never lost her head
Even when she was giving head
She says, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side"
He said, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side"
Just like 'Perfect Day' was about life on heroin, the BBC and others obviously just didn't understand the lyrics. When you consider songs like 'Relax' and 'Je t'aime' were banned, these Lou Reed songs were much racier.
Said the apple to the orange: "Oh I wanted you to come. Close to me and kiss me to the core. Then you might know me like no other orange. Has ever done before.
If you're travelin' in the North Country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
For she once was a true love of mine

Oh yes Ken, superb! "Perfect Day"'s one of my favourite tracks Steve. Sad, profound.
If life is a river and your heart is a boat
And just like a water baby, baby born to float
And if life is a wild wind that blows way on high
And your heart is Amelia dying to fly
Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes.
My heart was just/
An open sore/
Which you picked at/
'Til it was raw

...and then one day you find,
Ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run,
You missed the starting gun.

I kept a ribbon from your hair, a breath of perfume lingers there. It helps to cheer me when I’m blue. Anything that's part of you.
which one is this from GML ?
actually, it would helpif we captioned the lyric line with artist/album/song title? or not?

Even better (and much sadder):
Every year is getting shorter/
Never seem to find the time/
Plans that either come to naught/
Or half a page of scribbled lines/
Hanging on in quiet desperation/
Is the English way/
The time is gone/
The song is over/
Thought I'd something more to say
The wrong side
Of a lifetime's drinking
It's where it seems I'm coming from
I took my demons by the hand
Bent them, twisted them
Until they scanned and rhymed
And I took your love
And all the hurt inside
Laid it out on the market stall
Agony at a knockdown price
Reduced to clear is what I cry
Here is my song for the asking
Ask me and I will play
So sweetly, I'll make you smile
This is my tune for the taking
Take it, don't turn away
I've been waiting all my life
Thinking it over, I've been sad
Thinking it over, I'd be more than glad
To change my ways for the asking
Ask me and I will play
All the love that I hold inside

Yes, ken, we should add a caption to our entries (though some need no introduction, I think).
So my first offering above is Dancing with the Moonlit Knight from Selling England by the Pound, Genesis.
The second is the title track No Frontiers, Mary Black

The song, 'Anything That's Part Of You' was written by Don Robertson and recorded by Elvis Presley in 1961.

Even though I am the World's Worst Guitarist and Singer (TM), I can't help trying to sing along. It always causes me to choke up when she sings "I'm hoping I can hold it in....". Everyone else within earshot just feels ill!
