ND5 XS with iTunes

Posted by: Diggerbj on 07 April 2013

I currently have a ND5XS on loan. I'm new to streaming but have a large apple lossless collection which I sync to my iPod for use in the car. Once I got the nd5 setup on the network my first issue was getting it to play songs from my library. I solved this by downloading a free version of Allegro.  I also installed the n stream app on my iPad and started playing music from my armchair. Bliss!

The one thing that does not seem to work is streaming an i-tunes generated playlist. It seems to only recognise the few items I have downloaded from iTunes over the years and not the songs I have loaded from CD which are in ALAC format.

I also had to put n stream into UPnP simulation mode which disables the option to queue up your own playlist in n stream.

I've had a quick look around the forum but can't seem to find a definitive answer on how best to use a naim streamer with apple lossless files. I'd be interested in some comments from more experienced users than me.

Install Playback as a UPnP server. Allegro is awful and doesn't work well with an iTunes library.

Just tried asset. This is much better. N stream now works properly.

Asset seems to be the server of choice for PC. Enjoy the ND5XS
