Problem with QNAP NAS and Logitech media server for my NDX
Posted by: LCV on 11 April 2013
Hi,
I have installed LMS on my Qunap SERVER (8 HD X 3TB Raid 6) via QPKG installation and every thing seams OK, I create a Folder with my music and I was able to play it on may NDX via Nstream app on my iPad. The problem is that. I don't know why now I am not able to see the UPNP server anymore in Nstream. I tried to reinstall the QPKG on the NAS but still I can't see it anymore.
Some one can help me?
Lorenzo
Hi Lorenzo,
you might trytry this:
First go to the Advanced Setting of LMS. This should be on port :9001. There have look at the 'Plugins' tab. Make sure that the 'UPnP/DLNA Media Interface' box is checked. Save the settings.
Then go to port :9099 and check if the UPnP is enabled. This is on the SETTING page. If it is not, go to the STATUS page. Click on STOP. This will stop the server software. Then go back to SETTINGS and toggle UPnP 'on'. Back agein to STATUS and click START.
DO NOT play around with the UPnP toggle while the server is running!!!!! It will cause a crash and freeze the server and you will have to reinstall.
Sounds awful, but is really just a piece of cake. You should be done in two minutes!
As further information I must say that on my Nas I tried to activate the server DNLA and in the nstream app I can see twonkye but still I can't see lms! This to say that the Nas already works as server UPNP.
Thank you again
Lorenzo
Here am I!
I went to Advance settings of LMS and it is on port 9001.
In the Plug in box "Upnp/DLNA" box is checked.
I could not find the way to go to port 9099 to check if the UPNP is on or not, where must I look?
I did not even found the SETTING page, where is it? I looked in the ADVANCED SETTINGS of LMS but there is no page called SETTING and not even a page called STATUS!
Sorry but I am not very expert about this kind of things I work every day on my macs but only for the kind of work I need as a photographer!
Thank you very much for your help!
Lorenzo
When you are on the LMS page, look at the URL address in your browser. You will see :9001 after the host address. Change that to :9099, delete everything in the URL that comes after that and hit refresh. That will take you to the correct page.
For example:
Instead of: http://10.0.1.219:9001
You host address is likely not 10.0.1.219.
I am an idiot!!!
I got it.
Sorry but I did not understand what you meant with "go to port 9099"
Now I found it and UPNP was off, I turned it on (stopping the server as you told me) and now I can see it in nStream app on my iPad.
Thank-you so much!
Lorenzo
By the way do you know if it is possible to sort my music on the iPad by Composer?
Support for classical music in the streaming world is an utter disaster. I just organize all mine how I want it in folders and browse by directory in n-Stream. LMS supports that.
Ok but now I have an other question for you!
I have installed LMS also on one of my mac and I can use it on the nStream app with out any problem (still I can't browse my library by composer but I will get over this problem as you said)
The strange thing is that if I use LMS which is on my mac (not on my NAS) in the nStream app I can see all the albums and on the right I can see all the letters of the alphabet so I can find what I want very fast and I also can search for something in the string on the top of the list.
If I use the LMS that is installed on my NAS (and this is what I want to do in the future) in the nStream app I can't see the alphabet on the right and I can't search for something as I can't find the search string.
I tried to look in the the LMS settings but I could not find the solution.
I know this must be an easy thing to find but I can't...
Thank you again for being so patient with me!
Best regards
Lorenzo
I don't know.
I only see the letters and search field you describe when using the Squeezebox iOS app with my Squeezebox Touch. I don't think I have ever seen that in n-Stream.

Sorry, can't say anything about the behviour of n-stream either.
Hi,
My thanks to PinkHamster and RaceTripper for their advice on this thread (and to Lorenzo, too, for raising the query!)
Having been used to the LMS system for a few years I'm struggling to adapt to either Twonky or MinimServer and thought that I'd said goodbye to the infinitely superior LMS cataloging system ...
... until I came across this thread last evening.
Not quite perfect (e.g. select Artist then Album and I now get the whole album, i.e. including other artists featured on said album other than the Artist I've selected) but so much better than the other two servers, IMHO.
Cheers,
Mitch
My LMS is running on Port 9000, not 9001. And 9099 is not reachable from remote machines or the local one. What am I missing?
I believe I am running the latest version for Mac: 7.7.3 - 1375965195
Thanks.
