And much other music.

I hardly was expecting the news.

Sad and shocking.

Sad to see him go. RIP.

I treasure my Philips box set of the complete Sibelius Symphonies with Davis conducting the BSO.

Sir Colin could be greeted at the gates by Mr Mozart,

and to thank him for doing such a fine job with Stephen

Kovacevich and the LSO.

A very enjoyable disc imo that gets a play at least once a year.

I always find it a bit sad when a brilliant conductor passes away,

although 85 is not a bad age after a full life. Just says 'after a short illness'... so what did he die of ?

Sad news indeed... He did a lot for the rehabilitation of Berlioz, and his unclouded way with Sibelius continues to set his recordings apart. He also was a great opera conductor, and in particular, did a great La Boheme and Werther for Philips. He had his detractors but to me, he's one of the all time greats.

Very sad. Another one of the greats leaves us. At least he had a long life.
