Connecting HDX to airplay

Posted by: djs1784 on 16 April 2013

I have multiple zones each based on airplay /airport express /amp/speakers set up.

I also have a  separate Naim based music listening room: HDX/DAC-xps2//252/ 250-2/SL2-nSub. + AV2/NAP145/150

I bring Mac based music to the DAC via air xpress.

How do I get the music from HDX to the air express/airplay based zones?

Is there a streamer that allows for streaming via airplay  to mutliple air express connected zones  and can be managed with iphone app?

Anybody using Airfoil?

thanks

HDX and an airplay/airport based multizone system is not a good combination. HDX is a UPnP server; the clients in the other zones should be UPnP clients in order to stream directly from HDX. UPnP stream clients come in all sizes and prices from Naim or other manufacturers. They speak a different communication protocol than airplay. In order to play your HDX library onto airport express(es), you need a computer running iTunes. However, you can not browse through this library with iTunes, because it will not understand HDX' tagging system. The only thing you can do is to find the HDX music on the network using the computer's folder browsing, find individual tracks and 'open with' iTunes, setting iTunes to output to the required 'airport'.

The dBpoweramp folk have a product called "Air UPnP" which turns an Airport Express into a UPnP client.
