USB A-B leads

Posted by: BigH47 on 18 April 2013

Any insights to USB leads for computer to DAC/converter?

It seems to me that the squarer end (B?) is a weak point and seems to not "latch" and is a bit wobbly.

Is this normal or do the more expensive cables behave better.

Any recommendations?

I use a Wireworld Ultraviolet usb cable between dac and mac mini, weather it is better than a stock usb cable is highly debatable! It does however isolate the power conductor which must be a good thing. But it is a very well made cable with good, strong and tight connectors at either end and I figured spending about £40 was a worthwhile and relatively cheap investment on £1500 worth of dac and mac mini!

I honestly don't know if it makes any difference to sound quality,it probably doesn't,but as I said it's a relatively cheap investment and I feel better that it's in place instead of a cheap stock cable.

+ 1 the Wireworld Ultraviolet USB - between SBT and Micromega MyDac. I couldn't get the SBT to see the MyDac with a stock USB cable I had lying around but as soon as I installed the Wireworld - all was good. As above, I can't really comment on SQ differences to the stock cable but the Wireworld doesn't cost the earth and is well made.

Seems to be unanimous then, you 2 guys and 2 views from other sources all say the same.

Thank you all.

WireWorld Ultraviolet USB A-B, 1m, arrived today, excellent service from hificables dot co dot uk.

Seems a lot more secure fit at the "B" end and sounds great too.
