NDX Questions

Posted by: Jasom on 25 April 2013

Hi everyone.

I did try liking for the answers to the following questions in the manual but cannot see them there.

With the Naim series of network players, do you have to still maintain a folder structure on your NAS? For example, at the moment, I have a folder named Pink Floyd, beneath that are all the albums by folder name. Does this structure need to be preserved when copying to the NAS?

Secondly, when adding new data to the NAS, how quickly does the Naim see the new entries? Does some sort of database rebuild need to be done?

Finally, does the Naim need to be kept a long way away from the Router and Switch? Are there issues with having them in proximity?

Thanks again

Nope, that duty is picked up by the uPnP server and relies on the accuracy of the meta data to index correctly. What server are you using?

Again a function of the uPnP server. Most have the ability to automatically scan for updates at an interval you determine yourself.

Electrical noise, RFI... best keep them apart if you can.

Thanks again

I'll be using a Synology Server, by the way.

Thanks Again.

The Synology comes with a DLNA Media Server. Have a look at the configuration options. The manual is rubbish so I can't help you there.

If the files are tagged properly (ie album, artist, track#, trackname etc) there is no need to organise them by folders but when you have hundreds of albums, it makes sense to facilitate ease of administration.
