So what's this HiRes Zep.....

.... that Linn are about to roll out going to be? Celebration Day (as from HD Tracks) or (a or some of) the studio albums?
"Studio Master Quality" and "each song exactly as it was recorded" kinda hints that it's not a live album yet kinda covers itself against the possibility that it is.
Any thoughts?
And of course, automatically incorporating the fact that a 24 Bit rendition of a ropy recording is still going to sound ropy.

I was intrigued by that. They also have a number of listening events lined up with R.E.M and The Beatles. Both claiming to be presenting studio master quality.

I've often wondered. Given the technology from say 40 years ago. Is transferring an analog tape to 16 bit going to be different from a 24 bit transfer?

I think The Stones have fared well on balance from 24Bit transfers but it is variable. I have a 1968 recording - Days Of Future Passed - which has never sounded better in 24 bit so as ever it goes back to the care and skill of the original recording.
I wonder if Linn are hyping a UK 24Bit release of Celebration Day for download, of if there is in fact something potentially much more tasty coming through?
They are overcharging considerably for the 24Bit download of Rush's 2112. It's significantly cheaper from Amazon in a box set which includes the DVD-A. So the cynical side of me is anticipating an overpriced download of Celebration Day. But..... maybe....... ?

I got 'Celebration Day' 24bit from qobuz for around €12 about 6 weeks ago. Marginal improvement over red-book standard in that Plant is less 'reedy' and the bass more controlled, which gives a better overall balance. G

Best version of Celebration Day I've heard yet is the vinyl although I also think the Blu Ray is very good.

It's Celebration Day.
So a false alarm on my part.

I am listening to first Led Zep album on 24/96 and I cant stop smiling...Its so open and fresh(probably not the technical term) but its amazing. Its going through a QNAP 1000p into Nait5,150x and flatcap2x.Can only dream of what it will sound like with a Naim streamer. Had to share it with you....

I wonder if it will sound as good as 'Mothership'? That was a corker for sound quality.
John.

I don't think any thing could sound as bad as Mothership.
I'll stick to my Plum vinyl and BD mastered CD's until someone other then Page does a good remastering
