Is AIFF compatible with the latest incarnation of the 24/96 Unitiqute

Posted by: Michel Werner on 30 April 2013

Hi Everybody,

I just ordered a Unitiqute paired with a NAP100 and Totem Dreamcatcher speakers. I will be receiving it by the end of the week. In the mean time I have decided to rip CDs. I chose the AIFF format because it is compatible with iTunes. I use XLD to rip.

The Unitiqute was a demo unit at my dealer shop and is of the 24/96 type. I have two questions for which I could not find the short answer on the forum:

-Is AIFF compatible with that version of the Unitiqute once it has the latest version of the software. My dealer has promised to install it. I could not get the answer from him because the more oriented person is away for a week.

-I am using XLD for ripping but found that iTunes is faster. There is quite a number of people on the forum advising against using iTunes but it not clear to me why.

By the way I am using a Mac to rip on a Synology NAS.

Thank you for your help,

Michel

There seems to be a little bit of confusion around this subject (see this thread) so it might be best that you wait until your dealer can confirm the matter. Alternatively you can drop a mail to Naim support. They usually answer quite quickly (same day or latest the next).

Thank you for pointing to the discussion.

I think I will have to wait until I get my Unitiqute and experiment. I will probably rip in wav if I can manage the tags and make it work with n-stream. There again, I found the information confusing. I guess I have to find by myself.

Best,

Michel

I think AIFF is compatible with all Qutes.  ALAC, on the other hand, does not play on the 1st generation, I am told.

I received my 24/96 Qute yesterday for which I had a very good deal. It has been updated with the latest software and plays AIFF and WAV files without a problem after plugin into an RJ45 wall socket (the house is wired). The cover art displayed correctly on my iPhone with n-Stream. Everything is stored on a Synology NAS which is located away to avoid its noise. I mount the music folder on the desktop and it shows up as a regular Mac disk. So it was pretty easy.

From a Hi-Fi point of view (more interesting), it is paired with a NAP100. Great setup. Highly recommended.

Cheers

Bonjour Michel,

It's been a while since we last met!!!

I'm guessing the Qute/Nap100 is your second system, office system maybe?

What are the speakers? I guess the Qute is the only source, right?

BTW I do have some Qute at home too

Amicalement,

Edouard

Bonjour Edouard,

Cela fait effectivement un moment qu'on s'est rencontré. It seems that your system as evolved quite a bit since then. I am still using the XPS I bought from you.

The Qute is indeed my second system. It is used in my music study where I play electric guitar. I have pair of Totem dreamcatcher as speakers. I think they are great for their price. I considered a pair of Proac tablette anniversary but they are much more (1300 euro) expensive and thought the difference was not worth the investment for the use I have of my second system.

The Qute is my first foray in the NAS/Server HiRes files world. I thought it was a good idea to start there before plunging into it with a high end system and ripping hundreds of CDs. I hesitated because at some point I compared an HDX/XPS with the CDX2/XPS setup I currently have. I preferred the CD player and stayed with it.

However, I might buy an NDS some time this year. I will check it out.

Amicalement,

Michel

PS: I see you are using the Qute as your streamer in you main system. Never considered going for a more powerful streamer?

Same for me!

As for the Qute in source as a streamer in system one, just come and have a listen, you'll be blown away

Michel, in order to communicate privately, write me a mail (my email address is in my profile) I'd get your email this way.

I'll be interested in listening the Qute/Nap100
