Playback through AirPlay

Does any NAIM device support music playback through AirPlay from iTunes installed on PC?

Well you really showed me.  Thanks for helping the conversation and educating me on your explanation.

I was merely trying to postulate why it hasn't been implemented yet.

Maybe your explanation is this?

"It could be just really bad marketing but I'm starting to lean on software development's inability to produce a working feature."

If so, I am not quite sure I follow.  [Naim's] "software development"??  They straight up developed their own UPNP protocol?  Would implementing AirPlay be that difficult knowing how many others with fewer intellectual resources have done it?

Anyway, sorry I came across as childish.  I did not mean to in any fashion.

1) I gave a few potential explanations.

2) You trashed them.

3) I asked for your take.

4) You admonished me for not reading your post closely enough.

5) I called you a dick (sure childish, but i think appropriate)

I am not sure where in the communication I started a crusade in support of, or against, anything.

Have a great night.  I am making tacos!

I was tempted to speak up about this however I withheld my comments.  But since you mentioned it...

it NEVER is appropriate to call someone a "dick" on a public forum.  There simply is no need for this type of posting.

I love how everyone likes to bash Apple technology. AirPlay is convenient for casual listening. It is not complete rubbish and obsolete as the poster ( formerly called a d$&k) would love to conclude without any facts. It would be nice to have but not a game changer. I personally use a Sonos setup for entertaining as my Naim gear is dedicated for serious listening sessions only.

hmmmm, i think most in thread and all others would really like AirPlay support in the Naim streamers.

I dont think it is rubbish and I do use it from time to time to send audio to the backyard.  JRiver > UPNP > JRemote App > Airplay > Airport Express > Powered Speakers. But I personally wouldn't want to use it for anything else.

Problems with AirPlay (as I see it)

- It doesn't support hi-res

- You can only handle one stream at a time.  Sure you can send it to multiple devices.  But you cannot send multiple streams of different content.

- Does not stream "off network" for remote playback

- Does not stream FLAC

- Seems to be less robust (for me) than straight up UPNP.  Drops happen even when wired.

- Extremely limited video codec options.

I liken it to Bluetooth.  Neat, but not using it for anything serious.  I would be much happier with any other kind of connection, physical or not.

And it will be obsoleted in time.  As will UPNP.  I just think UPNP will have a much longer shelf life.

My 2 cents.
