Track listing order - would you do it differently?

Just listening to Telegraph Road - Dire Straits.

It occurred to me that the track order seems to be back to front to my mind. I'd have the longest track "Telegraph Road" as the last track, it just feels like the sort of track you want to finish with. Instead it's the first track on the album. Just my opinion of course but the thought was prompted by the thread about Epic Last Album Tracks.

Anyone have any thoughts on that or any other albums where the track order feels wrong? I understand of course this is totally a matter of personal taste and that the artists probably agonise for days over track order. Maybe less so in these days of ipod shuffling.

Yes it is a slight mystery as this track was a single side of the vinyl and could have easily been side 2. IF memory serves it's not a "concept" album so track order is not so important.

Whatever, it is a great track, and a great album for that matter, whatever the naysayers say.

In fact I'll put it in the to be cleaned and played pile.

There is one album that in vinyl was a double and the album side reflected the method of using a "stacking" record player, when the CD version was made CD1 came out as sides 1&4 and CD2 as 2&3 or something similar.

This is of course crap as Telegraph Road and Private Investigations were side 1 of the vinyl.

Yes, I didn't want to point that out.

I'd have had side 2 as side 1 and then reversed the play order with Private Investigations first followed by Telegraph Road. I remember listening to this album side 2 first in the past.

Picky, picky
