Gigabit Switch

I have installed a Netgear Gigabit switch and I swear I am getting a better sound through my Squeezebox Touch now.

Am I just fooling myself (even though it was not installed for sound quality reasons) or is there a rationale to this apparent improvement?

My guess is that it's a placebo effect.

If you can do it, have someone help you do a truly blind a/b comparison.

Who cares? If you are enjoying more, stop worrying and enjoy it. I've currently got a Sonos ZP90 playing through (supposedly mismatched) 252/SC/300 and love my music this way. It's not as good as the main source of CDX2.2/XPS2 but still fun.

It's possible your Gigabit switch is a 'green' variety with smaller Ethernet switching current, hence less EMI, and/or your new switch has a less electrically noisy power supply (usually SMPS), again less EMI.

Unfortunately I have been unlucky with recent Netgear SMPS as I have found them quite noisy. The older linear PSUs were better IMO.
