n-Stream app wish list

Posted by: Roman Kozyrev on 12 May 2013

As we all expect fresh updates for our smsll favorite app, let's start new features wish list. Hope it might help developers and SW Architects to deliver the best app ever!
1. Tracks ratings. Just like in iTunes. It helps to sort out favs
2. Tag editing (though not sure if this can be implemented under uPnP
3. Smart playlist creation. Again, copy paste feature from iTunes!
4. Universal random playlist creation
5. Big fixing in cover art presentation in iOS
to be continued.....!

What I would like to see in the next nStream update is:

  1. iPhone 5 support (bigger screen)
  2. iOS6/7 support
  3. Support for multitasking (is part of number 2.)
  4. The issue with low res cover art should be solved
  5. Drag 'n' drop playlist creation
  6. Rating songs
  7. Scrolling through songs
  8. No more crashing

And even better: when will it come??

Definitely a nice to have but it would be great that when you select a preamp input via n-stream, you can define a custom picture to come up. For example, selecting turntable would bring up a picture of my LP12

Good one!

A volume-control with "+" / "-" in single steps near the slider would be great...

Jup. That's another feature that I would like to see aswell. Does anybody know if and when the new nStream is coming out?

Agreed.  I have it all ripped off a mac book pro and transfered to a WD MyBook Live and all the new music that I have ripped recently for some crazy reason sits in the 'folder' folder, as opposed to 'artist'  or 'album' folder, where it won't show.  Just doesn't work....

Ok my list for Nstream:

1) hypertext links from your music  collection between artists, genres  and albums in Rovi, and metadata. (originally posted by Allen)

2) FFWD and FRWD.. Should be imminent.

3) on the fly ratings

4) configurable meta data display. Ie how to map and show metadata on the play screen. This is a big  big request and should allow artist to show in compilations as opposed to 'various artists', and allow better handling of  bespoke metadata for those that use highly capable upnp servers.

5) ported to other OS like MS, Android, OSX etc

6) support artist picture and more integrated meta data online lookup. The Rovi pseudo pamphlet feels too much like a bolt on.

I think my biggest wish is an integration of Qobuz streaming-offer - no more cd´s or downloads and streaming in cd-quality. Maybe the french influance from Focal will help.

That would be awesome!

And i have no problem to pay 30€ per month for that.

Nice sunday

+1 for Quobuz streaming offer controlled through n-stream. That would be fantastic since I wouldn't have to jump to my computer connected via HiFace to change records. I do not count on it soon though.

My wish list:

1 - Hyperlinks between the various meta data tags, so I can navigate quickly without having to traverse the whole tree.

2 - Full resolution album art view on the 'now playing' screen.

3 - FF & FR to seek within a track.

4 - Trash the whole Rovi thing - links to Wikipedia would be far more useful.

Rovi has always seemed like a total waste of bandwidth.  Most of my albums (even recent pop/country ones) don't seem to appear in their database, and as for earlier classical CDs ...

I have complained a few times about tree navigation. Even with improved performance, I still get tired of having to hit the back button multiple times in order to start a new album selection process.

I love the idea of hyperlinks, but I suspect this would take a lot of new development. To keep it simple, how about a "home" button? I would set it to "all artists" or, if I had just ripped a new batch of CDs, maybe I'd set it to the "new albums" playlist for a while.

And oh yeah, please make it available on all screens.

I agree on the Rovi  comments. I think it's utter rubbish and needs to come out. It is not a case of anything being better than nothing.

But my big ask is for FF and FR within a track. It's the only facility I find it difficult to live without.

+1

Rovi is worthless and not worth the effort. And it is almost always wrong for my classical titles. Naim should discard that feature.

Options like this when selecting a track

I really hope not. Too complicated, bloated interface. Keep it simple. Hide little used, advanced features away for the few who want them enabled.

Posted on: 07 July 2013 by Simon-in-Suffolk

I enjoy the Rovi data, it really can add to the listening expierience, when perusing influences and discographies of artists.. But I would like to see it more integrated.. The pamphlet style presentation is awkward and prevents showing any info of what is currently on the play screen.

I think Rovi could also be improved.. The similar artist feature is lamentable... But the artist and album summaries where they exist, which for me is more often than not, is great. Being able to cross reference producers and recording engineers is a great plus as well.

Simon

EDIT: RaceTripper, I totally agree, we don't want bloated overly complicated interfaces and pop ups - its a complete turn off. The best is to allow the user to configure thosei options they wish to see and use, as is common with full size apps.

I totaly agree!

The "Albums by..." is the best one, i think. And the real metadata from the file, no Rovi-Data...

The track-duration in playlist, playqueue and album-list will be also very nice - and full lenght of the hole album...

To be able to browse my upnp collection while still in iradio.

Currently, the second you select an input the music stops.

I should be able to listen to the radio up until I actually select a upnp song stored on my NAS.

Also, a recently added music list would be cool, like in iTunes.

+101.  Very good catch Maurice!

I would expand this request to include *any* other input, since I connect a bluetooth music receiver to Digital 1 for purposes of streaming Spotify from my iPad.

Rovi should also be more universally available. I should be able to search and read while listening to any input, and not just UPnP.

ATB.

So, I just downloaded the new n-Stream app for my iPhone 5. Now I am unable to connect to my NAC-N 172 XS. Anyone having the same problem?

Posted on: 15 August 2013 by osprey
Have you updated the firmware of your streamer also? (to 3.21 — see the other active threads about that)

Hy JayJay,

you have to install firmware 3.21, than n-stream 3.3 works again.
