Hi,
I recently ( 6 weeks) purchased a Unitilite. I have the following set up.
Cable Modem>Apple Airport Extreme Router>Gigabit Switch>qNap NAS>Ethernet Cat 6 to Gigabit Switch in listening room> From that gigabit switch cat 6 cables go to the Naim Unitilite and to a Sonos Connect
The NAS uses TwonkyMedia
Using the n-stream app on my iPhone I am able to "see" the list of all the albums and artists on the NAS. But when I try to go to an album it says "0 items".
When I click "all tracks" I see nothing listed.
When I try to search in "folder" I see all the folders of each album but again "0 items". The music is all in aiff format, except for 1 song which is wav. I am able to use the n-stream to play the wav song. That is the only song I can play using the n-strream app. I downloaded that song from the internet and copied it to my NAS.
Using the Naim's remote control I am able to play my NAS music fairly well. I say fairly well because some songs appera in an "unknown" section and the album and artist are listed as unknown. But I am able to listen to every song on the NAS using the remote control and songs appear on the front of the Unitilite's screen.
I am so frustrated.
Interestingly, when I tried to download n-stream to my wife's iPhone I was able to use the app just fine. I then used her iPhone to play a song from Sonos and from that point on I have not been able to use her n-stream either.
My Sonos connect goes to a digital input on my Unitilite. I am able to play the sonos through the Naim using the Sonos and n-stream apps on my phone.
Could anyone offer some suggestions. I am a real newbie and a techno dum-dum.
Thanks in advance for any help

Yankel, it sounds like most of your problems are due to your UPnP server, not nStream. I have never used Twonky, but a lot here is written about it and hopefully you can find some folks to give you some tips for getting it to behave better than it is now for you.

Yankel -
Bart is almost certainly correct.
Google "twonky aiff". You wil see, for example, a recently reported bug in version 7.011 where Twonky is not handling aiff meta tags correctly. Not 100% sure this is your issue, but it sounds pretty close.
Would be easy to do a mass covert of your aiff files to wav if you don't feel like waiting on a fix.
Good luck.

There are many programs that convert among formats. For OS X, XLD is often preferred.

If you can use a PC , try Asset UPnP. It can convert aiff to wav on the fly(no need to alter original files).

Hi, I've not used QNAP before but I have no issues with the upnp server on my synology. I had upgraded from a cheapie dlink and I realized all my problems were solved by the change in the upnp server. Hope this helps.

Thanks much!
The best way is to Google "xld for mac" You'll find it
You can convert entire folders at a time -- that's what I do. It's fast -- it takes just a few seconds per file. I'm not sure how extensive the documentation is, but like most stuff if you just look at all of the different settings you'll figure it out pretty quickly -- it's not a very complicated program as pretty much all it does is rip cd's and convert music files.

I never remember what that setting does, and what it should be if you are using a Naim server.

uPnP compatibility just seems to change the caching behaviour to allow the alphabetic fast seek list to work when browsing. With it on, nStream has to go back to the server every time, rather than cache the whole list locally.
I leave it off, and it's fast, and the alpha-seek thing works fine with an Asset server, so it's not just for Naim servers.

I can't use Asset because I have a MAc.
I find it strange that I can access all of the music on my qNap NAS using the remote control of the Unitilte but I can't access it all using the the n-stream app.
Using the n-stream I can only access the wav songs, but not the m4.a or flac or aiff files.
Since I can access everything using the remote I assume that the connection between my Naim Unitilite and NAS works well.
Why would the only problem be with the n-stream app on the iPhone? Could any of this have anything to do with the fact that I have a Sonos connected to my Naim Unitiite and also use a Sonos app on my iPhone? I did try to disconnect the Sonos from the Naim and the from the gigabit switch and I also removed the Sonos app from my iPhone. None of this seemed to help at all.
Oh, the humanity………..

Hi Yankel,
I've got Twonky running here on a PC and I can play AIFF files Ok to my Naim streamer. Twonky doesn't seen to deliver cover images for AIFF files but that is a different matter!
If I understand correctly n-Stream can browse all the AIFF files until the Sonos app is used on your iPhone then from that point onwards you can only see WAV files with n-Stream and AIFF files have disappeared.
I know that Twonky on NAS devices changes how it presents your music library depending on which type of device you are browsing with. For example if it detects a Naim server browsing (i.e. from the front panel) it will present your music library in one way and if it detects an iPhone browsing (i.e. from n-Stream) it could present in a different way.
My guess is that when the Sonos app on the iPhone browses the NAS UPnP server, Twonky suddenly decides that it no longer wants to show any AIFF files so then subsequently when you use n-Stream there are no AIFF files. this is a guess but I have seen similar things happen before.
What you can do:
1) log into your NAS and have a look at the Twonky settings. From memory it is something like "Media receivers" in "Advanced settings". You will probably see the various devices you have listed here. Find your iPhone and change the device type to something generic. Does this help?
2) in n-Stream settings, select "UPnP Compatibility mode". This changes the n-Stream UPnP browsing behaviour. Instead of browsing directly to the UPnP server it just reflects the list information displayed on the front panel of your streamer.
3) If this is all gobbledygook give our support team a call at Naim HQ next week, Point them to this thread, I'm sure they will be of help.
