Iradio has hick ups

Posted by: gogetgil on 21 May 2013

Dear all,

I am experiencing hick ups when using the iradio of the Naim Unitiqute. I have tried to stream via Wifi and wired, no difference. Sometimes it plays for hours and most of the time it streams for 5 minutes or 2 or 1 and then stops for 1,2 or 10 minutes. Rather annoying as I need to listen to internet radio via my macbook now. And that is of course not why I purchased the Unitiqute :-). Can anybody give me an idea of what to do and why this is happening? I have got a 40mb/sec download and my laptop et cetera works fine so i am confident that it has nothing to do with the router or so...

Best, Giliam

40Mb/s?  In which case you have BT infinity or Virgin?

If Virgin, then yes your router is to blame.

IMO, there are various reasons some are seeing problems with iradio.

For people who are located in some parts of the world which has a smaller international pipe to the server, you are likely to experience repeated breakouts due to falling buffer level when connected via wired. To some extend, the inherent architecture of a wireless network allows for more latency which in many cases, are able to provide for smoother streaming.

Secondly, the increase use of iradio may also be starting to overwhelm the servers we are all trying to connect to.

In both above case, the bandwidth between you and the ISP is seldom the issue as the real bandwidth required by iradio is actually very low.

In my view, having a bigger buffer in the streamer board may solve most of the problem but server loads and international network connectivity are also important considerations.

Can you try it in another location?  At a friend's house?  That might help pinpoint where the issue is.  Have you any friends with other internet radio sets?  What about at the dealer's?
