Soldier hacked to death in Woolwich
Posted by: Tarquin Maynard - Portly on 22 May 2013
This looks horrendous - seems that two men have just hacked a soldier to death in Woolwich, and then waited around for the Police to turn up.
Yikes.

I don't understand your comment, Tony - ?
I wonder if those two nut-cases will ever regret what they've done...
And if so i wonder how long it will take...

Not sure I understand your comment. This is a forum/padded cell. Is this not where these issues are raised and discussed whatever your view?
Lifes not just nice things and hi fi!
I was interested to see my "Englishness" being "defended" by some large shouty men throwing bottles at the Police. Don't QUITE see how that works, mind.
I rather think my "Englishness" was better defended by the brave ladies who shielded the corpse from any further damage from the fish-brained perpetrators, thank you all the same, "EDL".
There was a certain poetic symmetry in that the perpetrators, after strutting about mouthing gibberish about how only women were entitled to touch the deceased, then attacked the Police and were shot by.... a female officer. Made me smile, briefly.
All they have achieved is to give the right-wing loonies something to froth about and peddle more of their "Send 'em all back!" excrement.

+1. Those women were amazingly brave.

TMP,
I was taken aback by the post and, foolishly, thought it had no place in this forum. I will always be the first to advocate freedom of speech at all times and apologise unreservedly to you and others for the lack of respect for your post.

What also disturbes me about the limited video , that I could stomach to watch, was that this sick person had the rocks to stand there , cool as, talking rubbish to a random person recording this.
TMP,
Why did you start this thread?
how did this guy get into England in the first place? Flawed immigration policy as I see it - and flawed integration policies in place - making it easier and possible for this sickness to fester - the act just being a symptom of deeper issues... (Sure, hang the moron who did this act - not much point in trying to redeem that soul - but also try to understand the circumstances that allowed and enabled that guy to get sick - so it doesn't happen again).
Wouldn't be surprised - actually would be pleasantly surprised if this doesn't happen - if we have some right wing extremist neo-Nazi types take it out on some black dudes in return.
In the USA this would a) probably cause riots, b) cause the NRA to declare that everyone should be armed.

They are British born & bred
Disaffected, radicalized, whatever name you want to hang on them, but seems to be a growing problem with some in parts of UK. Especially shocking is one is reported to come from a devout Christian family.
UK immigration policies may have issues, but its not the problem in this case.
Tony
There is no need to apologise but thank you for doing so anyway. Much to your credit.
@ Jan-Erik - its because its huge news and an astonishing event over here.
Not really, it demonstrates a familial propensity to believe in twaddle - he just changed his brand of twaddle!
Maybe so Svetty, the point I was making (not very well in hindsight) is his parents are reported to be devout & active Christians & its them that are shocked.
I am not religious in any way but do not see anything useful in making unnecessary remarks about religion.

YOU brought it up!!
Anyway, the man in question also cited his identification with fellow Muslims in Islamic countries as being the motivation behind his act. Hence his religion is highly relevant....
Glad you said "his religion" as its nothing to do with the Islam that I know of.

Agreed!
All religions have their loony fringe.....
Interestingly, I don't see any reports of Atheists hacking, shooting and blowing up other folks in the name of, er, well - nowt actually...

OMG! Seriously? A devout Christian committing atrocities in the name of his faith. Unprecedented!!! I assume a papal apology will occur in the next millennium.
He originated in a devout Christian family, but changed his religion to Islam some time back.
Cheers

Well..............the USSR had a programme of religious persecution/suppression for a long time. Or, at least I think it was something along those lines.
And the Chineese gov doesn't look too kindly towards Tibetan Monks.
So I don't think all atheists are squeeky clean.

I was talking about individual acts of murder and mayhem carried out in the name of a god.
State repression is all about protecting a ruling elite against percieved threats. Of whatever kind.
I know.
I don't see much difference between individual acts of murder and state acts of suppression, torture and murder. Those in the USSR and China were/are carried out by atheists.
I'm not defending religious based acts of terrorism/murder in any way whatsoever. Just pointing out it is a human trait which afflicts some atheists as well as some religious nutcases.
Cheers
