UPNP Conflicts

Posted by: A funny thing happened on the way to the on 26 May 2013

Hi all,

Im running the US UQ and SU on the same wired network as a XBMC machine (linux)  There seems to be a conflict whereby the SQ and the US "dissappear": from the apps after a varying interlude. However once I turn off the XBMC box they all magically appear back and all in good in the world.

I dont think this is a fault with the apps, rather just one on those software conflicts of modern life, hence not bothering Naim wit a query.

I would be interested if other forumites have experienced the same thing and if they had any remedies?

Thanks

It's not a upnp conflict, it's a Network issue.

Have you checked the Network settings for IP Management?

Is you rooter Set as DHCP and give the IP to the Equipment?

HI Ragman,

Thanks for your comment.

The DHCP Server is enabled within the router and assigns IP addresses within a range. The XBMC has a reserved IP address within that range. Is that what you were asking ?

Are you in the UK ? Is the router a BT Home Hub ? I had these sort of issues until recently when I swapped a BT HH for a Netgear router. All well now. Point being this is probably a router issue not a UPnP issue.

Thanks Ian,

Im in NZ, the router is a Vodafone one, really a huawei one I think. It was good untill 5-6 months ago, then these issues started.

A, this is most probably nothing to do with 'IP addresses' or routers. I suspect it's a conflict you are seeing with upnp discovery multicast conflicts from the upnp servers on the same subnet. ( perhaps not helped because with consumer network gear muticasts are simply rebroadcast.)

I know you can however have mutiple upnp servers on the same subnet, but some do misbehave.

I guess the workaround is to use just one upnp server, either  US or XBMC. FWIW I find Asset a good upnp server and have run several other experimental upnp servers on my Raspberry Pi on the same network. Nstream can then chose between them. But Ihaven't used XBMC.

Good luck.

Thanks Simon for your input, appreciated.

I'll have a play around

Just in case anyone else has the same issue, I had made a wee schoolboy error. I had actually been running two Networks side by side. Oops.

This had the effect of various devices not being "seen"

I used a function in windows 7 "merge networks" and now have one stable network with no "conflicts"
