Hockey Nuts - Chicago vs Boston Stanley Cup Final Series, First Time Ever

Posted by: Geofiz on 12 June 2013

Seems that we have a real Stanley Cup Hockey Final this go round.  Think it will take all 7 games to decide a winner this time.  First time ever that Chicago and Boston have met in a Stanley Cup Final, very surprising given that both teams are Original 6.

And the first game is down to the wire. Of course, as Vancouverites, we hate the Bruins.

As being lost in transition between Toronto and Saskatoon, we also hate Boston!  Go Hawks Go!

Double overtime!  This is going to be a long night me thinks.

Triple overtime!!  Essentially a double game!  This is hockey!

Ok, I have to take the Boston side then. First game lost but Tuukka Rask will turn the series to Boston in the end.

One of the biggest mistakes the Leafs made was to trade Rask away.  As long as Chara is playing for Boston, no way I can support that team.

Years ago when I was kid and Chicago came to play the Leafs, Bobby Hull's brother Mark was dating a girl on the street I grew up on and often he would distribute the surplus Chicago tickets for the game to us kids on the street.  Also went to high school with Marty Hull, so definite preference for Chicago to win the series.

Saturday night will be an interesting game.

Cheers,

Interesting history you have no wonder you support Hawks on this one. I do not have any that kind connection to Bruins but I have to support a Finn when one is playing for the cup (2010 was Niemi and Hawks).

.... and I think Rask will be the difference-maker for Boston.

I'm trying not to read the messages above as I don't want to spoil the results so far - I haven't quite finished watching the conference final games.

It's the Bruins for me as I've been to Boston and seen them play, and we had a couple of Bruins over playing for my team (Nottingham Panthers in the UK) during the previous lock-out.

My wife would agree with you there. He's kind of like the standard villain around these parts. I was at the game in Montreal a couple of years back when he put Pacioretty into the stanchion. Nasty stuff. I spoke later to an NHL player about the incident, and he was far from convinced that it was an accident.

Well we are in Boston (the Boston suburbs) so of course it's the Bruins for us.

Wont hold that against you.

Its going to be one heck of a series in any case and yes, Boston's ultimate fate will very probably be decided by how Rask plays in goal.

Little trivia, there are 17 Canadian players on Boston and 15 on Chicago.  Both coaches played defence for the same OHA junior hockey team, the Windsor Spitfires.

Honestly, if Chara was not on the Bruins I would probably be cheering for them based on Canadian Content but .....  Didn't like him when played for Ottawa and definitely do not like him now.

Saturday night can't come soon enough.

Good Luck to all!

It certainly is a great matchup for the finals.

Chara is an Ass; it's too bad he can still play in the NHL.

I like the Hawks, but it always comes down to goaltending, and Rask is unbelievable.

As long as the referees let them play, we are in for a dandy.

Pulling for the Black Hawks here, although I loved watching Cindy Crosby and the Punkguins get swept in the previous round.  (Like that whiner Crosby was going to actually engage Chara in anything resembling a physical confrontation.  Chara would put him over his knee and spank him.  Very surprised Bylsma got a 2 year extension after the playoff debacles of the past 2 seasons.)

The Blackhawks red uni is one of the best in all of sports!

Oh, you mean the season the Coventry Blaze won the Grand Slam????? Remember it well ;-)
We had the late Wade Belak from the Leafs that season.
Happy days.......hope you are enjoying "borrowing" our trophy cabinet at the moment ! ;-)

It was dark day indeed when Wade passed on.

All Chi-town thus far, outshooting the Bruin 15-3.  Rask has been outstanding.

But hockey games are not 23 minutes long!

I think you meant 13 minutes at that time!

I think you are correct...my superlative (not) typing skills fail me once again.

Now if we could only get Pierre McGuire to STFU...

Posted on: 15 June 2013 by Geofiz

That called back goal could be the game changer tonight.

Posted on: 15 June 2013 by DrMark

OT again - Patrick Kane has been invisible tonight.

Posted on: 15 June 2013 by Geofiz

hmmm, looks like whoever scores first loses in this series.
