XPS2 with NDX or NDAC?

Posted by: andrew0810 on 19 June 2013

Since last week I´m the proud owner of a UnityServe (and ripping like crazy...), the NDX will follow soon (CDX2 will leave).

Short question: I have one XPS. Should I use it for the NDX or for the NDAC (as I do now). The NDAC will be connected to the NDX, of course. Any experiences?

Thank you.

Congratulations Andrew for a paced migration to demat!

XPS.2 on nDAC indeed is a no brainer.

In fact, don't bother with the NDX if you're going to use a Naim Dac. Just hook it up to a Mac Mini or PC. If you want a HiFi streaming source, just go get a s/h UnitiQute. The difference between a UnitiQute and the NDX as a streamer is marginal indeed.

Alternatively, let go of the Naim Dac, and just do NDX/XPS.

I actually preferred UnitiQute -> nDac/XPS-2 over NDX-> nDac/XPS2. I'm running NDX/XPS2 now just because I thought 3 boxes for source is kind of dumb.

Andrew, I see you use a 282/200. I would be inclined to just use the NDX. Sell on the DAC and XPS. I have found the NDAC with 555PS improves on the NDX as you would expect for a wad of cash, but NDX on its own is truly fab, and seems to really play well with the 282.. There is a real synergy. I was quite surprised.

As most, but not all, will also suggest, keep the nDAC unless you move to NDS. Indeed another sensible option for upgrade: Replace NDX and nDAC by NDS. Upgrade 282 to 252 and/or XPS2 to 555DR at a later stage.

Hi

XPS on NDac, and connect UServe (DC1) direct into NDac.....UServe also has internet radio....so why a separate streamer.....?
