Firmware updates via MAC coming up?
Posted by: Frits Van Der Veer on 25 June 2013
My NAIM representative in NL told me NAIM would come up with a MAC-tool to update the firmware of my Superuniti. This is supposed to happen in the coming weeks.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I need/want to update my Superuniti and if i can do it myself (only having MAC computers) this would be welcome.

I'm in the same boat - only Macs reside at home

Yes there is talk of a Mac utility that will do this... I've heard from a reliable source that it will come, but I don't have a date.

Good heavens no Mac support by Naim - what century are they marketing in and to what demographic.
Obviously they are not interested in the aspirational and independent of thought people.

Indeed Derek. Next you know they'll be issuing Android and WindowsPhone apps.

I have a mac but have to find an old pc to update firmware. Music downloads from the naim store work fine with a Mac so it might be possible to use a mac to update firmware.

With the V1 updates are supposed to done by downloading a file, importing it into iTunes and playing it like a track.
This could be it, as this will so work for Windows.

Still rumours for now then.
There seems to be an appetite for Apple update software.
The ultimate solution is self downloading firmware on the machine itself. Bit like how you update your firmware of your (i)phone nowadays

Guess I will not be looking at Naim devices that are so backwardly supported.

As a thought. I seem to recall a similar thread where Phil said it was not possible to have Mac updates to the original Uniti models because of the firmware.
Things may have changed - or my memory may be failing. Both are eminently possible but I'd have a bet on the latter if it comes to the crunch.
