HDX software version 1.7a now up

Hey guys,
HDX Software version 1.7a is now available on the naim support page.
I'll give it a go soon.

Software Version 1.7 for Hard disk player/servers New software which will make your Naim hard disk player/server an even more flexible and effective music hub is set for release in June 2013. Software Version 1.7 will enable the following key features:
Rip to FLAC: Previously customers were limited to encoding to WAV. You can also convert your existing WAV library to FLAC if you wish.
MP3-shadow encoding: You can now create lower-quality versions of your music. As with 'Rip to FLAC' you can now do this when ripping and shadow-encode your entire library. Useful for transferring music to an iPod/MP3 player or for use in the car.
Set share-scanning schedules: Your server can now automatically look for new music on the network at times predetermined by the user.
Stream internet radio over UPnP: This feature will allow other non-Naim UPnP clients to play the internet radio stream from your Naim server.
Also has a new version of Desk Top Client
Found the new ripping features as well as the mp3 encoding option within the system menu while the new scanning behavior can only be found via the new desptop client.
Unfortunately this option seems to be available only for network shares and does not include the "Server share" that the SSD sets as main store for the ripped music.
Failed here. Unitiserve SSD upgraded to version 1.6gRC10 and reported as such. Tried updating to 1.7a and still version 1.6gRC10.
I followed the instructions precisely and left unit for about an hour, I notice it didn't reboot itself or shut down. But I don't know what the exact procedure would be as only the HDX is covered in the instructions. So I rebooted manually and it eventually came back online but still just have 1.6gRC10.
I may try and do the 1.7 update again but would appreciate some guidance.

Tim - are you using an external Screen on your Unitiserve? I am asking because additional Information on the current activity during upgrade is shown there which is not even displayed on the HDX touch screen. This is sometime very helpful.
This way I recognized that the upgrade behaviour changed for1.7a: after running the upgrade scripts the unit restarted as with all the upgrades before. This time a window appeared after reboot on the external screen saying that the upgrade is still in progress.
I´m afraid that doesn´t help you because the whole process took anyway not more than 20 minutes. However if you try again an external screen will help to see what is going on.

I'm using uniti serve also.
I can't upgrade from 1.6g to 1.7a, too.

Success on the third attempt.
Plugged a monitor in to the back of the Unitiserve SSD this time to view progress. Seemed to go thru the motions and reboot itself. Then I did a reboot and we have version 1.7a_sp1. So I hope that is it for now.
By the way where would I find the new settings I have a Mac and usually use the NServe app (V. 1.2) or via Safari, can't seem to see abything extra on the ipad either and it is up to version 2.6.6786.

Yes I see what you mean, don't know why it didn't take the other two times. The process on my unit was:
Starting upgrade
Running scripts
Pre running upgrade
Re running upgrade
Running scripts
Monitor goes blank
Naim logo appears
Logo on unit flashes
Screen appears - System programming - Firmware update in progress - Do not switch off
Then we have the naim logo
Unit logo flashes
Seems to reboot - so quick I didn't see what it said but thought I caught something like "DMI Pool Success"
Naim Logo appears on screen
Logo flashes like it was shutting down or starting up
Then get home screen, I let it stay like that for a while just in case it wanted to do something
Then shutdown unit
Turned off power switch
Turned on
Unit rebooted
Tool a while after the logo light stayed on to be able to connect to it
Checked system and we have 1.7a_sp1
Don't know why it didn't do it before, the only difference on the third attempt was me attaching the monitor .
Would be useful if we had instructions for each product!!!

My n-serve reports the same Version. I always managed the music repositories via the Desktop Client and have the Impression that also a few other things are only possible via the Desktop Client. But isn´t there a Desktop Client available for Mac in the meantime? I understood a Mac Version was released a few months back...
Starting to find some of the new settings - via web browser.

Found nothing than the above mentioned. I was also hoping for some "minor" enhancements such as lifting the release year of an album onto the first level properties of the menus and displays.
Re upgrade or not - in the instructions naim mentions clearly that this upgrade shall only be applied to the latest Version. Hence if you may decide a few versions later to upgrade it may be necessary to go through most of the intermediate versions anyway. Just a thought.

On hard disk version all external shares updates instantly when new music is added, no more manual scan for downloaded music, big plus!
On the windows dtc the search has been enhanced, you can search for radiostation exact names or part of a name, and naims of radioshows, really smart since the internet radio menus are complicated to navigate and slow.

Hmm, so first upgrade to 1.6D and then the two-step upgrade to 1.7 and in the end no new functionality that I really want/need? Everything is working perfect now, I think I'll stick at 1.6C.

I'm on 1.6c too, which I had thought was previously the latest one. The 1.6d seems to have passed me by. The instructions I downloaded only mention 1.6g ang 1.7a. There is no reference to 1.6d and no obvious way of obtaining it, so I assume the previous contributors meant 1.6g, not 1.6 d?

I picked up my new UnitiServe yesterday, and it came with 1.6D. Today 1.7 is released. How stupid is that? £1800 and the latest firmware wasn't even loaded.
This is distribution.
If the software has been released since the unit joined the distribution system then expect the old version.
Simple really.
Just get back to your retailer and it will be fixed ...

Steve, connection of a monitor should not be necessary. Contact your dealer for assistance or let him do the update!

Cannot wait to get my HDX back from servicing, hopefully they will have completed the upgrade as well. The expanded internet radio capabilities will make my wife very happy.
No luck to version 1.7a for my HDX.
Did all what the instructions said to do & got to the 1.6g RC10 stage.
Loaded a second disc with the 1.7a & no luck - the display showed
'software upgrade failed, please contact your dealer".
Do you guys who had the same issues re - load the same disc & try again or just do a re-boot ?

If you check the instruction sheet downloaded with latest update, it says the update is a 2 stage process, firstly updating to 1.6g then second stage to 1.7.
The document also stares you have to update from version 1.6d.
If you are on 1.6c, then you will need to update to 1.6d first, and this update is also free download on the Naim updates site.
