HDX software version 1.7a now up

Posted by: crackie on 12 July 2013

Hey guys,

HDX Software version 1.7a is now available on the naim support page.

I'll give it a go soon.

Thanks Cbr600,

You're right and I've found 1.6d in the customer support section of the main website.

Cheers,

Keith

I installed 16g successfully however I am having problems with 17d. Naim logo just keeps flashing much faster than when you do a shutdown. I have tried rebooting and still no joy, so basically it's stuffed. Any adieas? Left on overnight and still no joy.

Sorry I cannot be of any assistance. These kind of messages keep me hesitating... Still considering sticking with 1.6 as an option...

Michel

Understand your hesitance Michel, i was the same.

Only problem is that this strategy limits your future development, as new upgrades will require you to have the recent upgrades already installed ( same as currently having to be up to 1.6d before upgrading to 1.7).

If some future upgrades are of interest to you, this will not be possible without the current details already installed.

I remember an earlier update where the same thing happened, ie flashing logo. I put the CD back into the UnitiServe and after a few minutes all was OK. If yours is still flashing after reboot and several hours it's possibly worth a try before informing your dealer.

Cbr, you're probably right, I'll do the update in the coming days...

Guys, just had a frustrating afternoon of updates and re-sets on my HDX for version 1.7a update.

In a nut shell if it does not work and you are out of ideas - turn it off on the back switch and wait a few hours then turn on again like I did & all should be good.

I could not get an error that said "system upgrade failed please contact your dealer" off my HDX display. Wierd, as access via nserv app. on ipad worked fine and showed i had version 1.7a_sp1 however my HDX display refused to acknowledge this.

No issues here.

(Using a UnitiServe-SSD,) it may help to remove any and all network shares / music stores prior to running the update(s).

It's also a good idea (as this is a two-part update) to take your time and verify that the first (intermediate-versioned) part of the update has completed successfully (1.6g RC10).  This is the s a similar situation to the update process, if you recall, from the older 1.4 software to 1.5.

One of the very useful features added in this update is the ability to toggle transcoding specific to individual file formats by extension name (e.g., .oga).  This is especially useful if your UPnP / DLNA player does not support native file playback of a specific format (e.g., older Naim streamers, other manufacturer's devices), and is especially handy as regards internet radio compatibility (as not all devices play WMA streams).

Done it and it worked. Many thanks to Tim for the blow by blow description.

Updates can be very frustrating and my family have learned to make allowances on these occasions, but I was able to keep my cool today ( with one eye on the monitor, the other on the cricket

Got "Firmware Upgrade Failed - please contact your dealer - Front Panel (error 64)"  message on auxiliary screen when doing 1.7 upgrade.  -  the1.6g had previously run OK.

Powered down with handset then power cycled with rear switch & it came back "Firmware upgrade in progress. Do not switch off"  ...then naim logo & 'Starting' message on front screen  ...then "Firmware upgrade in progress Do not switch off" message once again (on front screen & on aux screen)  ...then after a few minutes it showed home menu, so I did a power down with handset then power cycle with rear switch...  and up it came in 1.7a sp1 !!!

"Happy Days" as they often say in Salisbury.

So if you're doing the upgrade this weekend (when there's no dealer around to call) and you get this "Firmware upgrade Failed... " message, you could try doing what I did.

Good luck to all who try it !!

All is fine but the Desktop Client now tells it's out of date. How can you see which version of the software you have and how do you download the latest one? The new one seems to be 1.7a but when I down load it I get two files - a setup file and a Naim Desktopclient setup file. Which one do I run and, if both, in what order?

The 1.7 DTC is a separate download linked from the product page. The old version of DTC has to be uninstalled first.

Sorry, error 54 not error 64.

Harry, any more detail how to find this, i dont seem to see any details on site, but must be blind!

Just checked my DTC and i am currently running verion 2.0.11.1165, and have been for some time!

Is this the latest version or is there a newer one to link with the 1.7 update?

Would you try to service a high performance car unless you were a trained mechanic with the comprehensive knowledge to do the job not just properly but really well?

Same with these highly complex hifi products.

Get the retailer to do the work.

I uninstalled the old DTC and ran the new one using the first file (not the .exe one) and it worked fine. God knows what the .exe file is there for

By the way, I like the new automatic scan feature.

Cbr600, you can find the DTC new Version 1.7 as follows:

From main Naim website, type Desktop Client into the search field, top right hand corner and click search.

It will then bring up the 1.7 version as first result.

I couldn't find the new DTC myself earlier, and this was how I found it.

Managed to ninstall the old version and install this new one without any problem afterwards.

Hope this helps.

I am sure the dtc is on one of the disks, of course I cannot remember wich one it is. The dtc is not critical, if you still run the old version it will work, but you will get a warning stating that you need a newer version.

On disk 2, with the 1.7 upgrade there is a folder called desktop client. I thought the msi installer did not work but that the .exe did, but it may be the other way around.

Yes my ns01 upgrades has worked fine, only issue is that without an external screen you do not know what is going on, but the updates normally takes about 30 to 40 minuttes and until now all my upgrades has worked out fine, maybe because I do not have the touch screen and all it's scary messages?

Another question: in the instructions supplied, one can read: Switch the unit into shutdown mode from the remote handset.

Is it also possible to switch off the HDX via the front panel button?

Michel

If Naim thought these upgrade could not work for most users they would not make upgrades availabel to download.

Of course you have to decide if you want to run the low risc of losing your digital source for some time, if something goes wrong during the upgrade.

I think the worst part is to remember to remove the disk when it is rejected after a minute or so, probably because the files are copied on to the hard disk in the server.

Glad you got there Keith

I have been beta testing the 1.7 for some time and I loved the parallel transcoding.  The new DTC has a nice suite of scan options and I'm scheduling them to see how this goes. You can still refresh the shares manually too.

For some reason the HDX has now lost contact with the telly. I will have to look into this, although it's not something I use much if at all with the NDS in the system.

I would follow the instructions. There are some old threads that describes the power savings option on

the front as so much a shut down that  you have to turn off the hdx on the switch on the backside and restart it to get out of this monster power saving state. The remote power down gets the server ready to be turned off in the correct way.
